hi there, I’m wondering if anyone has put a rooftop tent on the stock rack? I have a fifth GEN trail edition. The stock rack says it has a capacity of only 132 pounds, but it seems quite sturdy. I will exceed the weight by quite a bit because the tent weighs that much by itself.

    Short answer: Nah

I have LFD cross bars that I would trust a lot more than the factory bars mainly because it would improve weight distribution.

That said If I were to invest in a RTT I would also invest in a prinsu (or similar quality) roof rack

Well the RTT was pretty affordable at only 1000 bucks for a 3 person Thule Tepui. How to install on a Volvo XC 60, Stock rack at first and that handled it no problem. I really don’t want to have to buy a new roof rack, but also don’t want to break something

I hear you. If I was going to stick with the factory rails I'd at least invest in cross bars. Although I don't think they are rated for it.

I ended up upgrading my cross bars. I actually had to because it was absolutely impossible to reach underneath the originals to tighten the bolts. Worked great!
