Hey guys, Do I need A body chop to fit 285/70/17. I know I would have to trim front lower fender but dont want to cut body mount because im still under warranty . also structural integrity . do you think it would lower resale value ?

You only need a body mount chop if the tires are rubbing the body mount. You'll only know once you mount your wheels, tires, lift (if applicable) and alignment if you're rubbing. The alignment is crucial as that will determine your final tire position in the wheel well.

If you end up needing a body mount chop, get a reputable shop to do the work. This will ensure it looks good (resale) and is structurally sound (warranty).

I have 285/75s and the chopping was needed. I did a Viper Cut and it still rubs when I turn at full flex. You see that, now turn and it rubs.

I did the body mount chop, only because I'm using -12 offset wheels and 1.25" wheels spacers. Others will say with certain wheels you can get away without a body mount chop(285s).

If you(or shop) does a good job with a body mount chop the dealer will never know. And if they weld a bmc plate it'll make it more rigid.

A viper cut is unnecessary to clear 285s but will help with approach angle.

I say no. I run that same size and didn't have to. I would stay away from any shop that is telling you need the BMC to fit 33's. BMC needed only for 34's and higher, IMO.

Depends on the wheel offset you chose. You can probably avoid a CMC with 0mm offset wheels. Many people like -10mm offset wheels because the wider stance looks better, but with those wheels a CMC will likely be needed.

Funny I'm considering adding 1.25" wheel spacers behind my 17x8.5 -12 wheels. Can you provide a picture of the poke you're getting with that setup?

Bilstein 5100 F/R (front clip is on the lowest setting), Bilstein rear springs 1.5, OME 2887 front springs and trim packer to compensate for the lean. SCS 17X8.5 -10 w 285/70r17 K02. No rubbing. I just trimmed the front bumper (inner lip) and mud guard.

Here's some I just took. I'm only running wheel spacers in the front( I only have a pair) I was going to order ones rears but I kinda like it.

One thing is with such a negative offset they will rub pretty aggressively. I just tossed on some .25" top hat spacers, and I want to get it aligned before I trim anymore. Other thing is your 4runner will never be clean as the fling everything.

But I do enjoy how it looks.

When I first installed my lift, I didn’t need a bmc, but…. After I installed UCA’s & got it aligned, it rubs and need a bmc. :annoyed:
My wheels are 8.5” 0 offset too

Thanks! I decided to throw some spacers on while the rig was getting 34s and IMS long travel suspension installed. Hard to get a photo to do it justice, but in person the thing looks awesome.
Front IMS is installed in this photo. (Fronts springs need to settle) Rear long travel going in tomorrow.

Bonus photo of Tread Depot's BMC and pinch weld mod. Every time I go there these guys impress me.
A previous shop butchered my body mount. Should have went to Tread Depot the first time.

They even through on some aftermarket 3D printed end caps for a very clean install.

Looks great! I love the added width the wheel spacers add.

Off topic, but you add the diff drop dobinson recommends with their long travel setups?

Funny I bought one and the shop told me it wasn't needed. They've done a ton of these so I tend to trust them.

I did request that we let the fronts droop and check for CV bind. Especially since the driver side has a 1/4" lean correction top hat spacer. This effectively lowers the coil and adds additional droop. If we see CV bind we will add the diff drop before it leaves the shop.

Edit: Sorry didn't mean to jack your thread OP! I was just curious about Hosslers rig.
    :threadjacked:

My two cents: Unless you're running very negative offset wheels or spacers most 4Runners seem to be able to run 285/70/17 tires with minimal trimming to the the mud flap and fender liner. Removing the mud flap entirely is also an option.

If after an alignment you find you do need a body mount chop, go to a reputable shop to do it. It will be plenty strong.

99% of people don't know what a BMC is anyways. The people that do will likely be happy to see that its already done and looks like it was done well.

    Go for it!
