    Hello all.

YotaWerx Tuning is located in El Paso, TX and is a partnership of local Toyota enthusiasts who offer tuning/flash services for supported vehicles. We have been offering flash services since June 2020.

Linked below is a map of our YotaWerx Tuning network. Please view to see if there is a YW networked tuner near you:
    https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1N0tl8rjAmM08bPGRXzrXyV4mICU4wo_Y&usp=sharing

For those of you with 3rd gen Tacomas who have followed tune development for that vehicle, you may already know of us as the original owners of Coyoza_Tuning, and the developers of the popular Coyoza tune for the 6MT 3rd gen Tacoma, routinely recommended as the preferred tune available for the manual trans 3GT. The Coyoza custom MT tune and the brand was acquired by another CVC Tuning and we rebranded under the new name of YotaWerx Tuning.

We offer tuning services for the 3rd gen Tacoma, as well as the 5th gen 4runner and other vehicles.

Feel free to reach out to us with any questions. We can also be reached on Facebook at YotaWerx Tuning and on Instagram at @yotawerx .. or via email at YotaWerxTuning@gmail.com

Thank you for your support and have a great day!

So do you have tunes for the 5th gen. 4-Runners, or are you just putting out feelers? Do you not have a web site?

We don't have a website. We do have our Facebook page.

We do have tunes for the 5th gen. I see that you have a 2017 listed in your vehicle bio. We have an OVTune tune pack available for your vehicle for example. This would be offered as a local flash service performed by us here in El Paso.

We are also simultaneously working on testing further tuning options for the 4runner, for what will eventually become our house tune if you will, just like what we offered for the manual 3rd gen Tacoma (Coyoza tune). When testing is complete and the tune is ready for everyone, then we will make it available both for local flash service and for remote sale (to be purchased by a customer to flash their truck themselves with VFTuner, or to take to someone with VF to flash their truck, or to be purchased by another VFTuner user offering flash services).

Initial test tune for GX460 went well this morning. Nothing wild or significantly modified, just edited airload table for observation, good results observed, will revisit the GX another day. Test truck has a lot of mods between intake, exhaust, and additional weight. Was running super rich, as low as 9 AFR at WOT. Running stronger now with a 0.82 lamda at WOT. Will begin looking at shift points for 4-5-6 gears next time.

More 5th gen 4R testing today on the street and in the dirt, a good 3-4 hours worth; 2hi, 4hi, 4lo. 97°F ambient temp. Looking like we're well on our way to a solid couple tunes that we can offer people who don't have much modification and who don't drive too aggressively, mostly reserved to mildly spirited, and then for people who do drive more aggressively. Have not explored aggressive ignition/timing adjustments, remains to be seen if we'll go down that rabbit hole or not.

Drivability for both options (temporarily dubbed 'Weekend Warrior' and 'Active Duty', which seems appropriate given our being located in El Paso next to Fort Bliss) has been retained and improved upon. Smoother behavior while feeling strong, AFRs looking good. 'AD' especially just feels like butter when accelerating...stays in 5th at highway speeds and will remain in 5th when giving some throttle to accelerate smoothly without struggle, downshift as needed.

More testing required of course. Will be keeping an eye on fuel economy over a longer period of time although we're hopeful for really good results. Earlier version of the 'AD' tune saw 22.9mpg with conservative driving over the course of a day of driving from one side of El Paso to the other, running some errands, etc, and then later on, 19mpg driving in the fast lane, 75-85mph, just trying to get from one side of the city to the other on time for a meet up with no regard for fuel economy.

Next fuel economy test will be more inclusive, observing behavior overall.

Test truck is a 2011 4R with a full ARB bumper, winch, roof rack, and some other gear. Currently has 91oct in tank.

If you're a VFTuner user and interested in testing, feel free to reach out. Would be particularly interested in anyone with a really heavy 5th gen.

5T4R tune testing going really well.

Looking like we'll likely be ending up with two tune versions as options (in addition to regular vs premium octane).

Sort of fitting that our proximity to Fort Bliss has inspired us to nickname them "Weekend Warrior" and "Active Duty". Lol

WW is more reserved and conservative while still feeling smoother, stronger, and refined. Throttle response is increased but not aggressively so. Early thoughts are that this will be what the majority of people want, and is more appropriate for people with a stock or nearly stock truck.

AD has a more aggressive throttle response and seems to be a more appropriate option for aggressive drivers and 4runners with a good deal of additional weight. Our test truck (described in the post above) averaged 17mpg on WW and 19-21 on AD, depending on driving style/habits while testing.

We are beginning to open up testing to other 5th gen 4runners that we have support for. If you're local/nearby to El Paso, feel free to reach out. If you have vFTuner/the means to flash your own truck, feel free to reach out. :hattip:

We do have intentions to get the tunes dyno'd for documentation but not until they're in their confirmed final versions.

Bump, still looking for 5th gen testers, especially stock or close to stock trucks, and heavy/heavily modified vehicles and/or aggressive drivers.

If you are not in/near El Paso, you will need to either have VFTuner so that you can flash your truck, or someone nearby who can flash for you.

    Hey mZiggy! Couple questions:

    1. Could you describe a little bit what you're modifying in the 4R programming? I saw reference to "airload tables" but would like to understand what those are and why modifying them makes the truck run better.

    2. What is it about the AD tune that produces such a mpg improvement vs WW? (You mentioned averaging 17mpg on WW and 19-21 on AD)

    3. When you say AD is more "aggressive" than WW, is that primarily in regards to throttle mapping? (Equivalent to turning up settings on one of those pedal commander products?) Or are there other elements being changed as well.

    Thanks!

I'm in Las Cruces, running SSO front bumper/winch, sliders, 285's, 4.56's and a full CBI with with dual swingouts with spare. I have VF Tuner already.
    I drive it pretty hard.

Replied to your PM, thank you for reaching out.

    1. There's more at play than *just* airload tables but depending on which table you are looking at, you can be manipulating the amount of airload calculated from your requested torque value (accelerator pedal), or as another example, you can be looking at how efficiently your throttle is performing in terms of airflow or cylinder fill (i.e. a value of zero tells the ECU that it's not filling efficiently, it's filling 0%, give more throttle).

    2. As noted, our own test vehicle is heavier than stock. So a more aggressive tune with a decently modulated pedal on behalf of the driver *can* result in better results than a less aggressive tune having to work hard to provide the same result.

    3. As an oversimplification, yes, but not via tables like what the 3rd gen Tacoma has, which will let you modify throttle percentage in relation to vehicle speed, which is more along the lines of what you're likely thinking of. But nonetheless this is why as of right now, testing is indicating that we'd be likely recommending AD for the heavier trucks and more aggressive drivers. But I need more feedback from more testers to get a better grasp of how the throttle, especially initial tip-in, will be received by *everyone*, rather than tailoring every tune to every individual.

Our 87 octane tunes were run on a dyno yesterday. Some time constraints came up and didn't get to the 91 octane tunes unfortunately. The numbers and their respective dynographs for the stock tune and our regular gas tune options are below:

    -Stock = 215whp / 231wtq
    -87 oct WW 7.0 = 224whp / 237wtq
    -87 oct AD 7.0 = 227whp / 233wtq

    *Elevation: sea level
*Truck was stock with 33" tires
*Smoothing of SAE 5 is standard, something I've verified at another local shop in the past when doing vehicle dyno-runs

    Stock (Run 0) vs 87oct WW v7.0 (Run 1):
    4R_Stock_vs_87WWv7.0.jpg

    Stock (Run 0) vs 87oct AD v7.0 (Run 2):
    4R_Stock_vs_87ADv7.0.jpg

So overall we've achieved a measurable increase on regular octane fuel for the N/A 4.0L, while improving drivability, throttle response, acceleration, smoothing out acceleration, etc.

Feedback from testers has been positive and supportive.

These results reflect the nature of our goals for the YotaWerx 4Runner tune, which was not to prioritize power, but to focus on aspects of drivability that 4runner owners value.

91 octane versions of the YotaWerx 4R tune will get dyno'd when time permits, but we are confident that the butt-dyno does not lie and that they provide noticeable, measurable power over the regular gas numbers listed above.

    Update (21Oct2021):

Today we ran our premium fuel 4R tunes on the dyno. The numbers and their respective dynographs for the stock tune and our premium gas tune options are below:

    -Stock = 221whp / 231wtq
    -91 oct WW 7.0 = 224whp / 253wtq
    -91 oct AD 7.0 = 225whp / 254wtq

    *Elevation: ~4000ft above sea level
*Rule of thumb is to expect power loss of ~3% per 1000ft of elevation, so theoretically you could calculate ~12% loss vs sea level, although that might be a bit ambitious... nonetheless, the elevation gain should be noted when comparing our regular and premium fuel dyno results

*All tunes including the OEM CAL were run with 91 octane.
*Truck was stock with 32" tires (half-inch taller than stock)
    *Smoothing of SAE 5

    Stock vs 91oct WW v7.0:
    dynorunShare_0~3.jpg

    Stock vs 91oct AD v7.1:
    dynorunShare_0~2.jpg

    Here's a dynograph showing all 3 superimposed:
    dynorunShare_0.jpg

We're very excited about these torque numbers and that curve demonstrated in the dynographs.

When looking at these results, we can demonstrate a strong torque curve while still pulling strongly in the top end, consistent through the pull. At 4000rpm, a wheel-torque increase of 37-38 ft-lbs (WW vs AD) is observed over the stock calibration, which is what those arrows in the first two dynographs are pointing out.

Our premium fuel tune does not seek out peak power either, because drivability aspects could suffer and drivability with a strong, consistent, dependable tune is the primary goal for our YW tunes. You can have potentially higher power numbers but on a tune that may perform at a sub-standard level. Peak numbers simply for the sake of bragging rights shouldn't be the goal if your drivability suffers as a consequence.

The YotaWerx Tuning WeekendWarrior v7.0 and ActiveDuty v7.1 tunes for both regular and premium octanes are considered to be finalized tunes at this time.

Thank you all for your support.

Added a note to our post with the dyno numbers to note that the truck on the dyno had 33" tires. Truck was otherwise stock.

i understand that, under normal conditions, a TRD intake wouldn’t produce any gains. However, do you anticipate it would actually be more beneficial with your tune?

Given Toyota's description of the TRD intake, I'd say it's possible. But I wouldn't necessarily expect anything huge or amazing. Intakes on modern N/A engines don't produce as much of a difference as they did back in the day on the carbureted and earlier FI engines.

Dyno runs for the YotaWerx 91 octane tunes scheduled for Thursday morning, October 21st.

Will be done here in El Paso, TX. Roughly ~4000ft elevation. Rule of thumb is to expect a power loss of ~3% per 1000ft, something to keep in mind.

Truck going on the rollers is stock with 275/70r17 tires (265's stock), so just about a half inch height difference. Truck will have run a full tank of premium fuel through it prior to refill and the runs.

Like the previous runs, the OEM tune will be run prior to running the tunes. The OEM tune will be run on 91oct as well to provide a consistent baseline.

Nice work fellas! Can’t wait until we have TCU access and can make more meaningful changes for drive-ability.

Question: are you able to get any decent data below 3000 RPM?

for a dynograph, not really since we don't have a way to enable a gearlock to prevent downshift. This is an example of where the TCU access would be very valuable.

Still really good pulls considering you don’t have gearlock. Are those 3rd or 4th gear pulls?

Tagging this since I am super interested in the 91 Octane tune. Especially since I am planning on jumping to 35's next year.

Yeah it's been quite a work in progress between R&D and getting ECU support in VFTuner but it all came together nicely.

At the moment we're not distributing the tunes for remote sales quite yet. We've elected to take advantage of an upcoming feature in the VFT software which will allow VIN-locked tunes. I understand this is an inconvenience for customers and we apologize but VFTuner has said that it should be available within a few weeks.
