For those who run G003s, any thoughts and opinions on long rides related to noise and comfort?

I know the sensible thing to do would be to pick up a set of stock size ATs and forget about it. Buuuut, I've read the G003s are quiet and comfortable compared to a lot of other MTs. I'm curious how much "worse" is the noise and comfort (the 285/70 are E load and heavy compared to the XL load stock ATs I'm looking at).

I don't drive much and if I start commuting again I will buy a commuter so this is a dedicated utility vehicle. But I will probably take it on long highway trips to get up north and west for offroad/camping/sightseeing trips. Was bummed to see the auto train only goes DC to Orlando, was hoping one ran west to Colorado area.

Edit: Looking at you @Thatbassguy since I know you just took your 295s off and went back to ATs for winter

Edit2: I should probably add these road trips wouldn't be frequent. A big trip out west once a year with one or more shorter trips up/down east coast (where I'm located). I just don't want my family to hate taking them with me :)

I like them. Coming from the nitto grapplers which were AT’s, the geolanders aren’t that much louder. I have them in E load and they ride great in my opinion, but people seem to hate E load tires so it’ll be up to you to decide on that if you haven’t had any in that grade.

Yeah, I know ride is subjective and I'll probably get different opinions. Reviews I've read on tirerack seem to be good - saw some in Maine and Vermont say they are good for snow too on the roads. I think they'd be fine but I trust the anonymous opinions of 4runner drivers more than tirerack. ;)

As for those A/Ts, when I'm keeping my eye on different tires and noticed those Toyo A/Ts rubber compound does not have 3 peak mountain snow flake rated for winter. I think no M/T has 3PMSF or even tighter grooves and siping for on road snow & ice use. With my previous experience with Load E tire ride quality I would not buy again (I don't have a dedicated on road vehicle). I know common tire sizes like 285/70R17 has ton of load rating options for A/T and few for M/T or Hybrids. I also looked at 285/75R17 and 34x10.5 R17.

The Toyos are definitely a lot quieter. But, the Yokohamas ride nice. I've driven all over with them, and really can't complain. Treadwear is pretty good, too! I have driven my Mom around, and she doesn't complain.

    That is perfect..!!

I don't know why Discount tire don't say that in the description. Really bad for customers who look at that rating. As shown below looks like I cannot rely on the description / details section in Discount tire.

Yeah, no MT has the 3PMSF from what I've seen but the G003s do have siping from what I can tell in the pics. Wish they came in a lighter load range C but no MT comes in anything but E load from I've seen on tirerack.

Edit - no 285/70 MT comes in anything but E load from what I've seen

I wish they would put 3PMSF in the options for filtering tire options. It seems like tire websites make it nearly impossible to figure out which tires are 3PMSF certified

Good to hear about the Yokos. If I go to a 285/70 then those will be the choice because even lighter load ATs are pushing the same weight. So it's either that or I go with stock size ATs for weight/fuel savings.

I was a little concerned about winter traction on MTs but people seem to like them pretty well. I would like to use them to get to a cabin getaway in snowy areas but that would be an occasional trip and think they would be fine for that.

Sounds like they would a good choice. Guess I'll be getting UCAs and doing some trimming afterall. Not worried about trimming, I've already hacked up the front for the low pro bumper. I'd like to avoid a BMC if possible so hoping with 2/1 to 2.5-1.5 lift (depending on where the extra weight I've added has it settle out) I won't need it. Would like to avoid the KDSS spacers as well

Tirerack does have this as a filtering option, it's nice

Went from 285/70/17 E rated Wildpeaks to 285/75/17 Yokos. Switched them out just before our trip to Moab and Telluride around the 4th of July. I def felt the weight increase and I have 4.56 gears. They are definitely louder than the Wildpeaks and I can feel the knobs when rolling really slow (it sometimes worries me because I think it’s the engine shaking) But as far as grip, idk if it was the combination of the Yokos and upgraded brakes but I was the only one who didn’t slide on our way down Top of the World. So far I’m very impressed with them. I haven’t had a chance to wheel them in snow or mud, but I can tell you the Wildpeaks hated mud lol I had about 30,000ish miles on the wildpeaks and they had a ton of life on them. I got a steal for the 5 yokos, which was the only reason I switched. I probably only have about 5k on them but no real complaints on my end. This isn’t my daily so I don’t mind the mild drone. I crank up the music anyway
