Would you go larger then 285 70 17?

    Well I'm soon due for a new set of tires, currently running 285 70 17s. I've been debating about going larger for my next set. But since everything larger is c or e rated and much heavier. So is it worth it?

    Obviously I have to regear which is fine since I planned to install front and rear e lockers. Just since my 285 70 17 only weigh 45lbs, and every larger size is 60lbs or more its got me questioning going larger

    I have 285/75/17 and they are big and heavy (E load tire). I like them but man are they heavy. I would not move up to 285/75/17 unless you have good reason. Just asking for more wear and tear.

    Can get Load C Open country AT3 or MT. Also a hybrid like Nitto Ridge Grappler in Load C. I really like the option of 285/75R17. I wanted to go that size over 295s when I had my TRD ORP with 285/70R17.

    I recently made the jump from 285/70/17s to 315/70/17s! I absolutely love my 315s. Went with the Cooper Discoverer STT Pros. Enjoy the aggressive look of them! I tend to do a lot of off-roading (trails & desert)! Honestly, it’s your Runner, so do what makes you happy! My vote is for bigger tires!

    If you wheel a lot and would see the gains from a larger tire, go for it. If not, I don't see a purpose outside of just wanting larger tires.

    I have 295/70/17’s, and like them. If you're looking for maximum flotation and traction, and plan on regearing anyway, I'd go for 35's or 315's and really make it worth the cutting/etc.

    But, if you really don't think you need anything bigger, I'd stick to 285's. I wouldn't go bigger just for the sake of going bigger.

    Currently in the same predicament. Not re-gearing any time soon. Torn between 285/75 or 305/70’s. Was going to go 295’s but 285/75’s are 34” and often not as heavy

    Did you get your 4runner tuned yet?

    It was a great and well needed upgrade, can't even tell im running 285s. No crazy shifts. 5th gear climbs instead of 2 downshifts. Its got me eyeing the 315 70 17 goodyear authoritys

    Just a thought

    Power/torque at low rpms is the biggest notice. It just has the power now to increase speed going uphill rather then downshifting and reving high. Its simply amazing what a $500 kdmax tune can do. If you are trying to improve without regearing, whiles its not the same, it helps greatly.
