Anyone else do WOT pulls in their 4runner. I plan on beating it up. Is the 4.0 as bulletproof as everyone on here claims haha.

I mean its not a vehicle built for the strip but I'm at over 100k and it runs like new. Do your basic maintenance and it'll take care of you. That's pretty much the consensus around here.

Anytime I need to get out of the way or up to speed ASAP. I've never hesitated to put it to the boards. 102-103K enthusiastic miles so far. Runs like new.

I wouldn't go WOT until after the recommended interval (1000 miles?). I also wouldn't recommend going full throttle at every stoplight, as you'll end up getting like 8 MPG.

I try to run it out at least once a week in my vehicles. Getting on the interstate, or a 2nd pull up to 60 usually. Good for motors to run out often. Blows out all the shit, or keeps it from accumulating. My first vehicle was an 84 351 Bronco. Bought it from an old man that probably never had it above 2k rpm. It took like a week of flooring it everywhere to blow out all the carbon. Looked like I was driving a diesel.

Wouldn't go as far as beating it, but will not hesitate to pour the coal to it every now and again.

“Blowing the carbon out” by beating on your vehicle doesn’t mean as much as it once did. Back in the day of carbureted engines, it may have done some good, and to “exercise” a 4 barrel carb, but with today’s fuel injected - computerized engines, I don’t think going to WOT, or red-lining a modern engine is going to help or solve much of anything. Yes, I get down on my T4R occasionally, entrance ramps on freeways, passing on a two lane road, etc., but even then I’m still a long ways from red-lining it.

Sure when I need to pass someone on a walker otherwise there’s no point because it’s a slow turd. My foot commander is usually dialed back.

I don’t think WOT is “beating it up” if it’s done smoothly. You’re only beating it up if you do it in a hamfisted way that causes shock loads on the drivetrain.

I agree WOT might not be as necessary as it once was to keep things clean, but in my mind it probably helps keep piston rings nice and limber, and in general is a good thing to keep things in working order.

I redline it 3-4 times a day during my commute. 162k and engine hasn't blown up yet!
