One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 36 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 36yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
    Wasn’t planning on wheeling…..
Taking a wrong turn (shitty signs) at a remote mountainous campground on to a tent camping-only trail loop with my pickup towing a 27’ travel trailer. Took awhile to get out of there, lucky the old 4wd Dodge with the help of a bunch of scrap 2x6”s I had in the bed got me through.

First of all this story is epic.
Secondly I've never heard a woman referred to as feral. I dig it.
Third and most important: Was this an off roading mistake at all? Half a sentence regarded getting stuck in a washout. The rest just sounds like a good time. 10/10 would read again

Thats funny as hell. Yeah, half of his story was him "messing around" with the girl. Starting to wonder if he didnt get himself stuck on purpose

Ive seen it firsthand in Utah and give people so much credit for going on trails with a huge rv attached to the rear. That takes balls - HUGE BALLS

Yeah. What is a feral girl? The kind "you don't bring home to Mother"?

^The story is from when Gravel was in his 20s. I believe the modern term is "overlander".

Feral is a way to describe a woman who’s not really housebroken, has no moral compass, no inhibitions and no real sense of self-preservation. AKA, a whole lot of fun!

It wasn’t purely about off-roading, but we ran a bunch of trails in that (nearly new at the time) 1986 2wd Ford Ranger, at speed, that a lot of people wouldn’t even think of trying without locking in their 4wd. And I did get completely stuck, so I think it fits in the thread!

Use it as a cautionary tale though, we were really fortunate to find help quickly. Looking back, if a cop had shown up before the friend, the two of us walking down the road with beers in hand (we had nothing else to drink..) at sunrise, probably would have ended badly.. And drinking/driving is incredibly stupid, I learned that lesson in a very expensive way not long after this story happened.

The hard part is knowing that the story took place 39 years ago.. But I’m glad you all enjoyed it! I know I did..

On the tight, rocky, top of the loop on a sharp left with cambered down hill turn got the trailer leaned against a tree, the 2x6s under that side of the trailer tires got me through with only a slightly flattened rain gutter…..a guy up there tent camping said “ya know, you’re not supposed to be up here with a trailer” in addition to the wife giving me shit….somehow I kept my pistol holstered……
