So I have been looking into upgrading my head-unit to get apple car-play. There seem to be 2 options the first being a new head-unit which is pretty self explanatory and cost about 500, the second option is the one I am inquiring about its a wireless CarPlay adapter for the stock head-unit. Here it is on Amazon: (Link to CarPlay thing). Have any of yall installed this or know anything about it? The reviews for it are pretty mixed but it being 200$ its a lot cheaper than a whole new head-unit. Also I will keep the original functionality of my head-unit like the CD player. The complaints are mainly poor picture and sound but the picture is because the stock head-unit has poor screen quality in the first place. So I am really only concerned about sound.
If any of y'all have insight or experience I would appreciate it, thanks!

I just got this yesterday, so far it seems great. It's just a block that plugs in so there's no cord and dongle that you have to stuff somewhere.

    ***UPDATE***
After a couple weeks of using this, it's started glitching or dropping out shortly after it connects. Sometimes unplugging and plugging it in will make it work for a while, but I can no longer recommend it.

For those with aftermarket head units, I just installed this adapter from Amazon and it works seamlessly with the Pioneer AVH-2550NEX in my '07 Sport. Plug & play using the USB connection to the HU. The big thing it’s plugged into is a USB cable intended to mount up to a surface. Already had that and will probably replace it with something more streamlined next time I have the dash opened up.

Why would anyone want wireless CarPlay when the wire not just a more stable connection but also charges the phone?

I can easily plug it in to charge if I need to and use the convenience of wireless when I don’t. The phone can stay in my pocket instead of having to have it out, connect it when I leave, disconnect it to take the phone out when I stop somewhere, put it back when I get back in the car, and so on. Also, I have a 4th Gen, and the only place to mount it wired that’s good for me interferes with my passenger side cup holder. I’ve had wired for several years so it’s not like I decided to downgrade. For me, wireless is better.

My post wasn’t to persuade anyone to do it, just to let them know that this is a method that works with aftermarket headunits.

    I agree.
Even with wired connection I have faced one or 2 times having glitches on navigation missing a turn on unfamiliar area.
I don't remember when was the last time I used Android auto or Apple car play. I just have the phone on my a-pillar mount with navigation on phone while music is playing.
