I couldn't really say until I see what Toyota does with it. I don't see myself buying another 4Runner anytime soon, though.

Just bought a new 2021....so all depends on how long it lasts and how long the 6th gen hangs around.

Love my ‘21. Can’t see buying new just for the new, especially at MSRP or over. Maybe if it’s all that and 30mpg without some twin turbo 4 cylinder bullshit. And under MSRP. So no.

Kind of a dynamic moving target for me since I’m waiting to see the next Gen Sequoia as well.

I really like the wife’s 2020 Pro 4R, but lack of power / efficiency / refinement are moderately annoying turn offs. Positively love the thing for it’s looks / capability / functionality tho.

Oddly enough (or maybe predictably), I have the same issues both good and bad with my 2018 Platinum Tundra.

So will be cross shopping the new Sequoia and 4R to see which of our current rigs gets replaced first.

I'd have no problem buying one. I would get the hybrid version.

However, my 2018 still has some life in it........so my guess is I'm looking at the all electric 7th gen

I’ve been keeping my 4Rs for 10+ years so by the time I’m ready for a new one it’ll be into the first 6th Gen refresh when all the bugs are worked out. ;)

While I am sure a turbocharged six cylinder will be reliable since Toyota does test new models for 1-2 years prior to introducing them, I do not think it will have the same glorious feel of the 4.0 V6. So many people complain about the engine and 5 speed transmission, but I am so familiar with it and it is so durable that I will be sad if it goes away. I'm going to buy a TRD Pro or OR before it goes away and keep it.

After seeing how much they upgraded the power / transmission / capability / technology / interior in the new Tundra, I hope they do similar with the 4R.

If Toyota addresses the front needle bearing thing, it's likely we will purchase a 6th gen., the rest of the 4Runner is good, it's just one of the things that is a pain in the ... hinder.

Unfortunately, the predictions are that the 6th Gen 4Runner will be a 4 cylinder turbo with optional hybrid drive.

I'd have zero problem buying a 4Runner that was made somewhere other than Japan.

There was some speculation that the 6th gen would be built in Mexico; however, that seems to be an area of debate among some of the insiders right now.

Given Toyota’s Kaizen culture and track record across essentially all generation of their BOF trucks, I have the utmost confidence they will continue that tradition of improvements while still maintaining the feel / character / heritage of what a 4Runner is.

Toyota is notorious for its extremely long design life cycles. When it introduces a new generation, I don’t look at it like the previous Gen was the last 4R (or Tacoma or Tundra), I look at the new one as the continued advancement in what the truck ultimately can be.

Lol, and who is against more power / refinement / efficiency / capability / function while still maintaining reliability?

There's too many things still up in the air for me.

I know I'm in the minority on this, but I like simplicity. I love the dash layout on mine. If the 6th gen looks like the space shuttle cockpit, that's a consideration.
What engine will it have? If it's a turbo 4, a lot will depend on how well the Tundra's turbo 6 is doing and the numbers on the 4.
Where will it be built? If it's built in Mexico, a lot will depend on if there assembly/fit-finish issues with the Tacomas being built there at the time.
Will Toyota eliminate the BOF construction or solid rear axle? If they do either of those, I'm out, although I can't imagine them doing either.

I am with you on that Simplicity thing. Even some things in my 2021 piss me off. I hate this push start button, I would have loved a key. But since the engine is old and the transmission is old, and the body is old, so I'm living with it. With the sixth generation, they'e making everything complicated. So, I cannot live with all that so-called modern and improved stuff. 4Runner sells like hotcakes, Toyota sells more 4Runners than Lexus sells RX. I don't understand why the hell they're changing it

By the way, you are lucky, you have a key, 2019 was the last year model when 4Runners had a key
