I'm contemplating trading my 2018 TRD OR for a 2022 TRD OR Premium.

    But I can't help think...

Is anyone concerned about potential manufacturing quality issues during Covid?

I'm not an alarmist by any stretch but with lockdowns, delta strains, social distancing, supply chain disruptions, unable to secure parts, substituting parts, government restrictions... you get the point. How can 4RUNNER quality not be impacted...

    Thanks...

I’ve been wondering about that same thing. Thinking about trading up to get the last year of the 5th gen while I still can. And thinking I need to do it sooner than later just due to availability.

But then I’ve wondered about QC, just like you OP. With stops and starts, shutdowns, supply chain stuff… I wonder how there could NOT be QC issues popping up here and there. I’m not blaming anyone. The times we’re in are pretty wild.

But in the end, it is what it is. And we’re not really gonna get a solid answer on this one. I’m prob just gonna go for it. It’s a truck, not a move across the country. And I think the QC is probably just fine in the 4Runners.

Even though I'm not planning to trade for at least another year I'm worried about the same thing. Given supplier issues, labor issues, cost issues, etc, it is hard to imagine that quality would suffer zero ill effects. I guess time will tell.

I see tiny bit of less quality on my 2021 TRDPRO from tiniest bit of the way door opens to alignment and wheel balance issues. I paid my own money for alignment and wheel balance (Didn't bothered to go to Toyota dealership for warranty work). But tiny things like the less smoothness the feeling I get when the door unlatches from the lock I would have to live with it. My previous 4runners does not have that hard feeling when it opens.

JBL sound is also tiny bit less quality than 2019 Limited.

I don't want to keep on as some think.... nevermind.

They probably employ the exact same QA people they employed at the Tahara Plant prior to covid with the exact same specs.

If the people or parts are different, then I'd be willing to bet their standards are the same.

P.S. I work in the QA field.

Same. Toyota invented/perfected most of the quality systems in use today, it'll be fine. I wouldn't buy a first year Tundra, but at this point the 4R's probably pretty much assemble themselves.

If production is being rushed to meet demand then quality could certainly suffer, especially if using a fresh labor force. Probably more evident on the parts procurement side of the equation than the Toyota assembly side. Sound Quality Assurance programs try to nip this in the bud, but nothing is perfect.

I think yota quality dipped some preCovid, yota has very high standards, in fact have set the standard in manufacturing for a while.
