I did use the search function to no avail.

I have seen posts on other forums where people who had mild lifts fit 255/85/16 tires in the Gen 3, however I am starting out with a stock suspension. Would like to put Cooper ST Maxx in the 255/85/16 size.

I read elsewhere a lift really dors not allow a larger tire contrary to popular belief.

Thanks especially to those with first hand experience.

You will need a lift more than likely, that's a 33" tire .. you might can get away without much rubbing but I imagine backing up and turning whilst going uphill / downhill will rub quite a bit.

I have 285/65/16 STT MAXX's on our 98 with a 3" lift. That's a 1/2" shorter tire than what you want. I would be really surprised if they didn't rub like crazy without a lift. I have no rubbing issues at all with my tire/ lift combo
