Hi guys. Finally decided on a mechanic to do my head gaskets. We're also going to freshen up the heads, check the valve seats etc.

I'm also going to have the water pump checked. The one on now looks to be a replacement. We'll see when we get to it.

Chain will definitely be replaced. I'm considering the Cloyes full kit. Anyone used it before? I'd like to hear your thoughts on it. Cloyes has been in the biz for a long time.

I love oem, but not for 650 to 1000 bucks.

Appreciate if you guys could share your thoughts and experiences.

How many miles on the current chain? They last about 250k miles, right?

Truck has 225k on it. I don't think it's been changed.

Cloyes claims their chain needs to be changed every 80-100k. Why would you go with them?

Agreed. The deeper you dig, the better your parts should be. Don’t put all that time and effort into it and then bargain-shop the parts. After all, OEM got you this far, eh?

Buy from a discount on-line parts seller like McGeorge Toyota for savings off your local dealer prices.

Appreciate it. Tried them and even for an incomplete set that only included the chains, guides, sprockets and tensioners was 1200 before shipping.

Just ordered a genuine all OEM kit from YotaShop which includes everything possible needed and a new Aisin water pump for 825 bucks shipped. Just as a heads up for others.

Link to what you bought? It helps out other people reading this thread who may want to do similar maintenance.

YotaShop is supposed to be good stuff and if it's the kit I think you bought there...it's all OEM at a good discount.
