Which ladder?

A little late to the party, but I went with a Gobi ladder myself when I bought mine back in 2021.

I liked it the best appearance wise with the smallest footprint, and looked the nicest to me. I didn’t care for any of the modular ones that were readily available. I went Gobi even though at the time many people were unhappy with them due to their lead times. I was ok with waiting and took the chance anyways. At about 8 months I want to say I got a call saying my ladder was starting production and I want to say it was about a year from initial order. I was fine waiting and happy with the end result.

Was yours in stock when you bought it, or are there still lead times?

Interesting. I just ordered a ladder for 2024 4Runner after I read this thread. Too many enablers on this forum! Anyway, still said 4 left when I ordered. Logged back in a couple of hours later.....still 4 left. Wonder if that is their default low count even if they have none in stock? Keeps the orders coming?

Although im patiently waiting for the weather to turn, I have a Prinsu roof rack and ladder in my basement ready to install.

I choose Prinsu because I have experience with their rack.

And most of all the ladder clamps on. Does not require drilling. Have a look.

How do your struts do with the extra weight on the rear?

 

They do handle it and hold up the hatch but it’s a little tougher to open.

Gobi’s struts are severely overpriced so I got some of these coming

Let me know how well they do. I’m not terribly happy with my “Strongarm” struts that I upgraded my OEM ones to. When it’s warmer out, it will lift most of the way, and I’ll have to push it up the rest. It holds most of the way open, but struggles in the cold. Kind of annoying since I spend time back there daily for work.

 

Went with the Westcott ladder. It’s the Gen 2 ladder which is a little lighter than the first gen they did.

 

Question. Are there ladders made for the 2nd gen? I think a ladder would be cool on mine, but I don't even know if they make them for the 2nd gen because it has an actual truck tailgate and not a liftgate

 

I don't know how a ladder could work with a tailgate. Each of those seems to make the other inoperable...

 

Thats my thought too. I guess if I got one that went on the side that would work. I don't even need one. I just like the look!

 

I've seen ladders on the side of vans, but it seems you'd have to drill into the body, unless they have some type of bracket that mounts underneath.

 

I was between this and the Gobi. You should post more pictures of the ws v2. Can’t find much online since it’s relatively new. Here’s my Gobi I installed a couple days ago

 

If you are asking because of the post above yours, he means a "gen 2 ladder" as in - the ladder company made a FIRST version, then made a better SECOND version ergo a "gen 2 ladder".

 

Yes. I know what he meant. But when he mentioned gen 2 ladder, it got me curious if they made ladders for the 2nd gen

 

Like ur Gobi ladder. I see how my previous post was confusing. I have the Westcott ladder 2.0 (which is their 2nd edition, I shouldn’t have referred to it as ‘2nd gen considering this is a 4Runner forum).

I went with Westcott as I liked their rock sliders (zero degree DOM TIG welded with kickouts and top plates). The quality of the ladder seemed equally as good, Funny thing is their products come with their signature bottle opener so between the rock sliders, roof rack and the ladder (that makes 6 bottle openers on my rig. LOL) ‍

 

Here’s more pictures of the Gobi/ Sherpa setup. I like how the tube construction matches the rear bash bar. Thanks for the suggestions gents!

Keeping that heavy 34" spare low and out of the way was the goal. It's not as fancy as the big bumpers with swingouts but much lighter and pretty high clearance as well!

Love the way the Gobi ladder goes with it. Tube construction ftw

 

I agree, the tubular construction of the bumper compliments the Gobi ladder nicely.
Sherpa was the other rack I was considering as well.

 

Is drilling required for any of these ladders?

 

No they're bolt on.
They sort of "sandwich" a couple places around the hatch and support about 250 lbs

If anyone is interested I’ll have a new never mounted-still in the plastic wrap Gobi ladder for sale in the Houston area sometime after mid March. It came with my roof rack, but I noticed I just step on the back tires to load and unload the roof.

 

I have had this ladder for a few years, with a crestone. Its a great ladder. I took mine off this winter for a less cumbersome look. Ladders arent used much.
