Which ladder?

Been considering a widdle wadder…

My rig has a Sherpa crestone sport rack. Curious which ladders work with this rack?

I honestly just want a ladder to hang a trash bag off of and have occasional roof access. Might add a rotopax for fuel eventually as well.

I have a Sherpa Crestone on my 4Runner as well and also have the C4 ladder. They seem to work well together. I have to confess that the ladder is a *little* cringy to look at but I do find that I get use out of it putting paddleboards and things up on the rack. You will definitely need to change the hatch support struts because the ladder adds a decent amount of weight.

 

I have the Cali Raised Molle ladder. I did not want it for a ladder, but for rotopax, axe and trash can mounting. Works great.

 

Sweet looking setup and a very creative use of the ladder. Hope you never accidentally leave the cover off the axe blade.

 

Wescott for me. Heavy but very sturdy and capable. I haven't put anything on it other than the usual trash bag.

I personally would be uncomfortable with an axe head just a few inches away from my back window and held on by a Quikfist.

 

Thought has definitely crossed my mind. It has been very solid and no issues for quite some time, but I may look at different mounting options as I would not want any undue issues.

 

All he needs is Borracho's tow hook protection device and he's got his whole rear end protected.

 

I really like that. I’ve seen it on Calis site. Obviously you upgraded the lifts. Any downside with your headlights shooting higher because of the additional weight?

 

Could be a concern, but I have not had that issue as I have lifted the 4runner to keep the factory rake after installing, especially since I tow a lot.

 

Funny you say that. I have the side window molle panels and had a military shovel attached. Held perfectly until the day I went through a bolder garden. I’d be a little nervous with a full axe on the back. I’d recommend he reconsider the location of that or take it off when off roading

 

Nice. I have one of those hitch hauler platforms and we load it up with at least 300 pounds. I’ve noticed people flashing their lights at me

 

Good to know. I will definitely be considering alternative mounting options. Thanks for the insight! I only put it on when off roading, but that is weekly with camping, hunting, trails, etc. Will probably fit up in my top box actually.

 

Yeah. I like your setup and just wanted to share what happened to me. Keep in mind we were in a boulder garden. I do like your setup and I’d leave it alone unless the terrain called for it to be removed

Looks like the weight rating on all these is 250#.

any consensus on which one is the strongest? They all mount in the same way which makes me think the weak points are the mounts not the ladder itself

As with any mod....you need "another" mod to support the first mod. This $hit never ends with this vehicle. You need to get heavy duty struts or lifts for the hatch. The ladder is just too heavy for the current struts. Those run about 50 bucks. See....more

I don't have it, or have really seen many people using it. It's aluminum....8lbs is all.

I've always wanted one for the same reason. Trasharoo and maybe a rotopax. My roof top cargo boxes open towards the middle of the rig so a ladder doesn't help me at all for them....only down side is my wife would make fun of my widdle wadder

the Westscott v2 is pretty light and looks good.

But the Gobi ladder is classic and I think it would match my rear bash bar... Being a tube construction. What do you guys think?

 

@1SilverRunner compared to vehicle ladder prices, if you do this you'll get a lot more ladder for the money!

 

I transported a $500 ladder recently… does that count? Lol

 

Power coat it black, stick it on the back and I bet no one will tell the difference!

When I had a Sherpa Crestone, I used a Gobi. I no longer have a ladder, or a roof rack anymore, but if I were ever in need of either again, I would do the same setup. The Gobi is by far the most aesthetically pleasing in my opinion and doesn't mess up your vision out the back too bad.
