I'm getting rid of my built Jeep and going back to Toyota. I built an FJ Cruiser before
I built a JK Jeep. I was much happier with the Toyota. Since I want an after market
3 1/2" suspension, ( Fox coil overs with better UCA's ) I was wondering if I even need to go
with the TRD or TRD Pro. I would hate to throw away any TRD parts.

    Thank you for any input.

Short answer: Off-Road, Off-Road Premium, or Venture

The TRD Pro is basically just an Off-Road model with Fox shocks/springs added to it, so save the extra money on the suspension you actually want.

If you just want to do shocks and tires, go with an off-road.

I went with the Offroad because I knew I was going to do some work and knew that I could save money by sourcing my own parts and doing the labor. BUT if price weren't an option, then why not just do the TRD Pro and be done with it. I mean it does have EVERYTHING.

Because you wouldn't be done with it. It would suck to pay extra for Fox 2.0's and then have to sell them to put in Kings or Fox 2.5's or Dobinsons or whatever you end up wanting.

And the Pro doesn't come with any armor, so you'd end up doing that as well.

You can save $10k if you go with an Off Road over the Pro. Then use that $10k for other stuff.

assuming you have $10k sitting around in the bank for suspension and mods.

That's why I went with the Offroad. I have a 2019 w/ 20k miles and financed 31.5k. Easy decision and left plenty of money left over to do all of the cool stuff.

Come to think of it though. My $10k worth of shocks and speakers financed at only 4.5% might save money vs the high percent credit cards assuming you take forever to pay them off. Damn im smrt. :homer:

Credit card is 0% for 18 months. We'll see how far I get before then. The ultimate plan is to transfer to another CC at 0% before 18 months:yes:

OP definitely won't have the $10k in the bank if he goes with the Pro, but also won't have the 3.5" suspension wanted either...

With a 3 1/2" suspension lift, will I have to do a body mount chop to fit 35's like I did to my FJ Cruiser?

I will do that, thank you. I prefer to do my own aftermarket build, but I don't want to throw anything away that I paid extra for.

I should get 25k + for my 2014 JK since it only has 30k miles on it. I can put a good suspension on the runner for 5k, then add bumpers
    winch, armor, etc...

    Will a 2020 4runner need a body mount chop to fit 35's with 3 1/2" suspension lift?

If you want to build it, then go with an off-road or off-road premium.

You could then sell the stock rims, tires, and suspension to offset the costs.

You ultimately will have a cheaper and more capable rig than a Pro. Just takes a bit of work to get there.

    Yes. And more stuff.

It connects the sway bars to the frame on one side with a hydraulic piston. Front and rear are connected, so they can allow the suspension to flex more without fighting the sway bars. On flat surfaces, they don't flex, so the sway bar works as a normal sway bar.

    It's really brilliant.

*This is an over-simplified explanation. There's a bit more to it than this.

If you're doing major suspension modification, you might not want to spend the money on it. Especially if you might remove the sway bars.

I believe the SR5 and Limited do not have the scoop. This might have changed.

Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System. It's only an option on OR models, not on the Pro. In a nutshell, sway bars are hydraulically linked, and give you better on-road ride, better cornering handling, while also helping off-road to keep tires planted on the ground at slower speeds. It may not be for you if you plan on 35" tires, though. Those will take some serious mods to fit a T4R.
