WHAT'S THIS THING??

I started my 3VZE Toyota up, shut it off after 30 seconds, and go open the hood Oil everywhere. Looking around I find this sitting on the oil pan lip on the left front looking at it. What is it, where does it go, and what does it do?

 

Just a shot in the dark, but does your dipstick have a sleeve where it goes into the block?

 

Then again, it almost looks like part of a bushing.

 

Post up some better pics. I could play this all day.

 

Maybe put it next to a tape measure for size reference.

 

It's on the opposite side of the dipstick.

 

Can you give us a clear top and bottom view?

 

This should help I hope. Lots of oil, a plethora.

 

Can you take a picture of exactly where you found it?

 

Can you trace the oil back up to where it came from? I'm stumped.

 

I hope these help. I can see what looks like an oil passage on the left side of the water pump

Now that i see a few more pics. I think it might be a plug, kind of like a freeze plug only smaller.

 

looks like nothing that a hammer wont fix.

 

I found out it goes where the ball bearing in and under the water pump is

 

But mine is different of course. Maybe I can shove it back in with some kind of sealer

 

Is that an oil gallery plug? Just guessing, but is there an oil gallery under the water pump?

Found. Where it goes. But it not a ball bearing.

 

What sealer?. It should never have to come out. And probably never should have
