What's the best bug shield or deflector for my new 2022 ORP?

Is the Toyota factory bug shield the best or is there another brand that I should buy?

Your better off just installing some PPF on the hood. I found those "bug guards" actually send debris into the windshield. Including rocks.

But do they actually deflect the bugs from your windshield? or just add more to them right up in the line of site area? lol

I have the AVS low profile version. I really like it. Note that it is a good idea to put some protection on top of the grill (where the underside of the hood meets the paint at the top of the grill). You don't see it with the hood closed, but over time the underside of the hood (now including bolts and the underside of the bug deflector) will rub the top of the grill. I used a strip of 3m vinyl. You could use felt or something else as well. On mine, it is only a 0.5 square inch area that rubs slightly.
I don't know how well they actually do their job as far as bugs go (not many bugs around here), but I do alot of off roading and have not had any rock chips since I installed the bug deflector. I think it looks sharp and like the low profile look. Also have the AVS low profile side window "rain" thingys and really like those as well.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Do any of these shields bolt on to the hood like the Toyota offering or is it all 3M tape holding them on? And if anyone bought the Toyota shield please chime in.

My AVS low profile version bolts into the hood, it isn't going anywhere.

I have the toyota oem bug guard. Ive had no issues but it has only been on for a year and a half. For whatever reason I usually like to stick to oem accessories.

I remember reading a few people did not like the oem one because of the metal clips and scratching. This was on a thread in this forum maybe a year or two ago.

I have the Weathertech one and it's held up to dozens of car washes and looks and functions great. BTW, I'm generally not a WT fan but this product has been very good.

Just put an AVS deflector on my 2022 4Runner last week based on all the positive feedback in this thread. Shipped to me the next day after ordering, wow!
Fit perfectly, spruces up the front end look IMO, so no complaints at all.

I put an AVS deflector on mine after getting a very visible rock chip on the edge of the hood. On the Midnight Blue Metallic paint, the primer underneath is a light grey, which becomes very noticeable due to a scratch or chip.

Do you have the low profile one (that sticks to the hood) or the high profile (rock and debris) one? Thanks

I have the high profile one that attaches under the hood. I had the stick-on one on my F-150 and it came loose on one side and flapped in the wind until I could get stopped. It had beaten a gouge into my hood that would have had to be repaired at a body shop if I didn’t replace it with the same one before selling it. I know a lot of the members here are anti-car wash but I have a car wash membership and go through twice or three times a week. The high profile one has held up for 18 months of ownership.

ive got the weathertech one, but only to protect against paint chips etc on the edge of the hood.. when i bought it last winter it was actually cheaper straight from weathertech than anywhere else and the AVP and others on Amazon that i have used on other vehicles were actually more expensive..

does it do anything for bugs... maybe.. .i noticed a very slight decrease with vs without .. .and i did manage to pick up a small chip from a rock on my windshield, but nothing would have prevented that.

the weathertech bug deflector does work, I've had it on my Tacomas, neither of them suffered from windshield damage, maybe that was just luck, but I buy the theory that some light weight road debris can be lifted by the air flow shooting upwards instead of colliding full frontal with the windshield

I went with the AVS II . I think it is the tallest profile. It was less the $50 shipped from Ama--zon. It installed in 2 minutes and next week I will be on the road from Idaho to Utah and then off to Nevada so I will give my review in about 15 days. I want to thank everyone for the advice.

maybe im a derp and it was installed wrong, but the avs deflector apparently rubbed some paint off the top of my upper grille. couldnt understand why it would do that as it was tightly screwed down. no longer have it on now. i'll just look into PPF for the hood instead.

I 100% see what you are talking about. I have just had this on for a few miles and I can see some sight rubbing. The hood shut really good. It didn't feel like I had to force it down so I didn't worry about that area until your comment. I thought the hood would have some bumpers that are screw in/out up/down for aligning the gap but on my 2022 ORP it is only set grommet type bumpers and there is zero adjustability to bring the hood slightly up. I've got 2 days to think about using this before my long road trip in the Western USA. I have a 1997 Chevy Z71 that I had a bug deflector on for years and it was looking bad so I took it off and about a week later a massive rock came out of a 4x4 trucks tire and put a major dent in the edge of my hood. I know the profile of the 4Runner hood wouldn't let this happen but I still like the idea of a bug deflector on my ORP. I wanted to get the front covered in clear bra but in my area they wanted $2300 for a full front and $1500 for a partial and that just isn't affordable to me right now. I might have to go down tomorrow and see if they will lay down a small strip to protect the top part of the grill you are talking about. Thanks for posting your comment.

I couldn't find one like yours for less than $90 to 110. I like wea-ther-tech and would have bought that if I could find one. I'm working on the slight rubbing to the top of the grill. I have some clear bra stuff to put on it tonight. Yesterday I just put blue painters tape down until the PPV comes in from AM-A-ZON.

Here is my Weathertech deflector. It is the one that mounts to the hood - not the stick on. After 3 weeks I have noticed the slightest little mark on top of the grill. It's only noticeable when you open the hood. I placed a little clear tape on it to prevent scratching and will get some 1" 3M ppf tape. It's only about a 1mm spot where I see contact. Clearance is pretty tight so I can see some minor vibration might cause the marks.

I have the AVS 2, and its perfect. But I got 2 rock hits on the bottom part of my windshield. I thought they deflected the rocks to the upper part of the windshield. What am I doing wrong?
