Is there no aux jack in the back of the 2023 MY head unit? Not seeing anything like I recall in the 2019 models (attached).

Is my only option a new radio or some bt or fm transmitter?

if so, next thread will be, recommendations on head unit with nav & aug?

    Thank you in advance!

    Photo from 2019 EBAY MODEL
What I have is three usb ports, 1 carplay and 2 2.4a charging
What I want is an aux port:

Another reason I always say buy from the facelift of 2014, to 2019.
They even fudged your steering wheel volume and next track controls for all of eternity.
But then again, I'm notorious for bashing modern 4R tech like the windshield and bumpers $$$ :p

    So. darn. true.

Funfact: if you set the mini gauge cluster screen to "radio", you end up with:
1 (steering wheel left side) up/down changes chanel
2 (steering wheel left side) right//left changes vol
3 (steering wheel right side) up/down changes channel
4 (steering wheel right side) right/left changes the mini gauge mode to something else.

So.. if you're dumb like me and program the same station into sequential fav slots, things can get really confusing.

The new head unit is arguably better than the old one. Toyota got its fair amount of criticism by many many owners with the old HU and entune

what’s the advantage of the old HU over the new one?
Also who uses an AUX port nowadays? Personally, I’m glad Toyota finally put CarPlay in the 4R. I would’ve been very annoyed if they didn’t.
The only downside that I can see about removing the aux port is that a phone/device cannot play music while CarPlay is being used by another phone. But that’s not really an AUX issues, it’s Toyota not allowing to play music via Bluetooth while another phone is using CarPlay. Plenty of other brands allow it so I don’t know why Toyota doesn’t

ps: I agree with the steering wheel volume control though

    Interesting!
Great information, and true, the old headunit is ancient and needed to go.
There was one time I wanted aux for some reason and that was satisfying it had it
I've never heard about those issues good to hear. Of course Toyota skimped out on 4R interior capabilities, that's what they do

I'm okay with the new features, but not at the expense of loosing the old. Especially on a 5th gen 4runner that's been produced for the past 15 years. Who would pick a 4runner with the expectation that it wouldn't have an aux port? Even the Macbook M2 still has an aux port. I feel violated.

I've used similar cables in other applications with good results. They're not all created equal, though. There's a bunch of digital and mixed-signal circuitry buried in the USB end which can be vulnerable to overheating and performance degradation.

I guess I used the AUX port for my Garmin GPS only, never thought about it on new 4Runner?

I use it on group rides to plug my GMRS sound into the AUX port, allowing me to listen to the GMRS over the vehicle sound system.
