Hey Whats up guys, i just bought a 2007 V8 SR5 with 416k miles on it, car is working amazing so far, just 1 owner, i don't know much about car, i am amazed on how well the truck goes even with that high millage, any advice on what to check out or be ready for? I have a couple of thousand save for emergency but i kinda want to upgrade tires, if you were on my position what do you think the priority should be? I live in Minnesota btw. Thank you all..

Well I read that wrong. Thought you were looking to mod.

It would help to know what maintenance the previous owner did. There had to of been stuff replaced already.

    TIMING BELT!

If you have no record of when it's been replaced, do it ASAP. Those are "interference" motors.

Otherwise, do the basic maintenance and bask in the glory of 4runner awesomeness!

    Welcome to the party!

I am looking to mod the sh!t out of this runner! Man you have no idea how much i like this thing, i owned a Tacoma 2019MT sold that thing because i was buying a house, Factory Order a Tacoma 2020 and today y called my sales rep to cancel that and get my deposit back.. to be fair Listening to Dave Ramsey has a lot to do with not taking a loan on a vehicle.. can't be more happy..

Got the report, at some point it looks like the owner was doing the oil change by himself.. Timing belt was change just a thousand of miles ago.. i don't even know what to get first, lift/suspension/tires? I am planning to keep it until it dies.. so maybe Clazzio covers/new radio/weathertech mats? So many options...

You are smart for listening to Dave Ramsey. Better to have a simpler life, not getting into debt to buy a car

Would 3k for a 2003 4Runner 150k Limited V8 with great service records be a good deal. The frame is rusty but not destroyed. Needs some TLC and POR15.

Yes sir, i openened my eyes.. i didn't now much at the time from the US system, i move here just 4 years ago, and don't get me wrong, this is an amazing country, you have access to everything if you work hard, but also is easy to be on debt for ever, it takes time to realize that

It doesn't sound like a bad deal at all, i paid $3800 for mine..

Why? I hope this thing last a few years, i work from home so i don't drive that much and to be honest i like the car a lot..

Wow, nice looking vehicle. You definitely didn’t get ripped off. Are you going to take care of the rust? I live in Michigan and the 4Runner I am looking at is a more rusty then that.

If you want to be more advanced I would say go to harbor freight. Buy an angle grinder for $15 and wire wheel attachments for $5. Eye protection and decent gloves. Hit the bad areas with the wire brush. And paint with POR-15. And finish with Fluid Film or CRC corrosion inhibitor. Get the attachment and spray inside the frame holes.

At LEAST spray down frame with spray before winter.

It would be worth spreading $100 for a good mechanic to look at the car. And double check the timing belt condition and everything. Better to be safe than sorry.

Yes, Saturday Monday 7am i have te appointment in the shop to so a full inspection, Timing belt was replaced at 412k miles in a Toyota dealership, thank you bro! Toyota community is pretty cool, same vibes from Tacomaworld.. about the rust, i will get a quote from a company same saturday too see how much they will charge, id rather do someone else who know how to do the work take a look at it.. i barely can change a tire.. shame on me.. but if is too much money i will give a try to my mechanical skills and do it myself before the winter gets here..

I am buying a 2003 4Runner Limited V8 on auction. 150k miles all service done at dealer. Timing belt was done in 2011. I will just put a new belt in. Needs new wheels and tires eventually. An interior detail. And the left rear bumper piece. I am still thinking 3k is too much. No ticks ran really smooth. Just couldn’t test drive it.

Hopefully I get the vehicle, I will find out Tuesday. I will back and probably then as a official 4Runner owner. I will update you. And look forward to see that happens to your vehicle.

Yes I meant if you don’t fix it now it will just get worse over time. And as long as it’s all surface rust it’s fixable. Even this vehicle in the picture is fixable. A good clean and paint will just stop the problem from getting worse. As long as it doesn’t get worse you are fine. Paint just stops it from getting worse if it’s applied correctly

The first thing I would do is hollow out a few compartments for transporting illegal drugs.

    But that's just me :spy:

Hey man, so everyone was amazed of how many miles the car have and then after they did the inspection they were amazed on how good in shape is the car.. so that's good! Next friday is getting the spots from the hood and from the liftgate removed, paint restoration and a full interior detailing, on the a few cans of rust converter, a 3M undercoating, i decided to do it myself since is not too bad.. weathertech on the way, looking at some tires/TRD wheels/Clazzio covers, 10/22 installing Kenwood receiver with androit audio, back camera, remote start and keyless entry. And i am thinking on a lift kit (Blistein 5100) but don't know yet.

    Todays upgrade, led lights.

Good luck on the truck man, is yours. I have a quick question sir i bought this two products, i wonder if after the rust converter is applied i should be putting some kind of black paint and then the 3M undercoating, asking because the guy at O'Reilly advise that.. any thoughts?

DO NOT PUT Rubberized undercoating. If it has any gaps it will trap water and cause severe rust. Do not listen to the O’Reilly’s guy. Rubberized is no good. Watch this video for proof. Most rust converters don’t need paint. I would spray the rust converter and then spray oil. Oil repels water. Cans of Fluid Film Or CRC Corrosion inhibitor. You can get it Amazon. Buy the one with the extension wand. To spray inside the holes of the frame. Please NO 3M, honestly it will destroy your frame

Honestly I would recommend Rustoleum Rust Converter. Rustoleum is the best company for spray paints and rust. They really care about rust.

Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer 248658-6 PK Automotive 10-Ounce Spray, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0719WXWFV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_T2jAFbPSDRKPZ

Fluid Film 11.75 oz. Spray 3-Pak, Spray can Extension Wand, Bonus Number 1 in Service Wallet Size Tissue Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CJWV273/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_p5jAFbT4YXK9C

if you really want extra paint over the rust converter use

Rust-Oleum 338948-6PK Stops Rust Advanced Spray Paint, 12-Ounce, Flat Black, 6 Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HKWD81F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_bekAFb68JQKCS

Amazon has a great return policy. If you buy paint make sure you look if it’s gloss, semi-gloss, or flat. Gloss and semi-gloss are really shiny. You probably don’t want that. That’s why flat black is what I would recommend if you want to paint over the rust converter. VHT might be good, but I have no personal experience with that product.
