I was looking at the Toyota dealer's receipt for my 2011 Transmission drain and fill they did. They charged me $62.16 for 6 quarts of Transmission fluid + $250 for the strainer. There was a $100 charge for labor. Total cost was $412.16.

Job was done on a SR5 at 100,000 - but dealer didn't mark down the mileage on the receipt. There was no charge mentioned for the gasket, and I'm wondering why?

Did I get ripped off, or is this the right amount of TF (6 quarts)?

I'm thinking of buying TranFluid and having a different shop do it. Amazon.com says this is the right part for my "Strainer/filter" for $26. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00G3Z5Y3E/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
    Does anyone know for sure?

What type of tranny fluid can I buy and use? Does it have to be Toyota WS?
How much should I buy for an independent shop to do the job?

Can I use Max life synthetic?

I took this from the Amazon website / Questions:

this does meet toyota WS standard yes?

Answer: Yes, the Valvoline VV324 1 Quart MaxLife Full Synthetic Multi-Vehicle Automatic Transmission Fluid, 32 fl. oz is suitable for use in place of the Toyota WS fluid.

Would you use Valvoline MaxLife? https://sharena21.springcm.com/Publ...2d889bd3/3fa3136a-09bd-e711-9c12-ac162d889bd1

Regarding quantity, there are two versions of fluid change: pan drain and refill, and full system flush. I did a 4 quart pan drain and refill earlier this year. Read this post for a 16 quart full system flush: 6 quarts sounds like a bit more than a pan drain and refill.

I used Toyota OEM parts from a dealer: gasket, strainer and fluid.

I agree. The dealer telling me on their receipt (May 11 2011) that they used 6 quarts of TF is baffling.

I found this post on another 4runner forum. The 4runner OP shows a picture of his Transmission drain and fill after 70,000 miles since previous change.
His OEM WS Toyota Fluid looks plenty reddish still. He has 220,000 miles on his 4runner. I won't flush, but will drain and fill (3.3 Quarts) every 60,000 miles. 2WD. No towing. No offroading. And short trips (under 25 miles). I'm in Nassau Bahamas.

I read those 16 quart drains and fills, but will spend a few hundred for the mokanic with the 6 to ten lifts - more than likely.
