I have a 2001 4Runner that is my son's daily driver to school. We noticed this broken hose and would like to know what the part is called so I can search for a replacement. Also, what is the function/purpose of the hose? How difficult is it to replace, particularly where the other end is attached? I appreciate any help.

Looks like it was added for some reason. The hose normally goes from the air box, unbroken, to the driver's side of the engine where it is now. If you look, the small hose section on the air box is not OEM. Plus it's sporting one of those garbage hose clamps.

You can kind of see the correct setup here:

Bottom line, just get a replacement that goes unbroken across the back of the engine. You can get it from TOYOTA. They aren't too expensive and no clamps needed.

Actually, I see a white strip, I think, on your current hose. That white strip aligns to the air box like the pic I posted.

So, just remove that non oem section and re-attach?
