So beside the air filter in my parts Runner, their is this box thingy thats missing in mine. (See pics). What thr heck is that? Do I need it? On my daily, the EGR was deleted. This parts Runner has all the EGR stuff. Is it worth putting back in? Idk if the EGR delete was even done properly. What do you think?

EDIT; I don't know why the photos are upside down, I didn't take them upside down. Thats just how they uploaded for some reason. :)

The EGR system is reliable. It only malfunctions over time due to poor engine maintenance. Many people rip it out (sorry, delete it) because it clutters up the engine bay and/or they don't understand it. That box thing is to quiet down the passive air injection system. Instead of a pump, exhaust pulses draw fresh filtered air into itself to help burn unburned fuel mostly during cold starts.

OK, so is that something part of deleting the EGR? Or should I/would it be worth putting back in since I have it anyway?

It's separate from the EGR system. It's part of the PAIR (passive air) system. Now if the PAIR system has been yanked as well, then that silencer box thing serves no purpose.

Taking a better look at your photos, it looks like the PAIR system has been blocked off with a plastic cap. The PAIR valve is located near the firewall on the passenger side under the intake plenum.

Yep, I noticed that it was blocked off when I bought it but had no idea what it was. I must say, having two engines to look at to compare has been useful for lots of things!

Have you checked out Yotatech? I spent a lot of time there way back when. It was big in the 2000s so tons of 2nd gen content.

I've heard of it, but never really looked at it at all. I may have to! :)

^^^The text is still there for a lot of stuff but many of the images have evaporated. The '86-'95 section was hot because that run of Toyota pickups and SUVs shared so much in common.

Here in bureaucrat land of CA those Counties with smog laws will do a visual underhood check every 2 years. Anything engine missing or modified is a fail and your re-registration is stopped.
