What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Sad day...Traded in the 4R for a 2023 Tundra Limited AG for towing my 18 x 7.5 cargo trailer.

The 4R was awesome during the 6.5 years it was in the family, and the trade-in value was high relative to the original purchase price. It really served the family well until the end.

I'll be back in a few years when the 6th gen comes out...hoping for a hybrid.

 

My new air compressor just arrived and I didn't expect it to be that big. Makes my normal size (laptops with full keyboard and a number pad) work laptop looks tiny. Did a quick test from 20 psi to 35psi and it was very fast. Need to do a proper test later. I did not expect it to have a bag either, thats very nice.

Paid $543 to get a 2nd key fob and have it synched. Lame!

Yes, it fits through both male and female when they are together. I’ll snap a pic tomorrow after work with the awning on. My locks have a 3” shackle (closed) and about 3 1/2” (open)

 

Yeah, thanks for that. I’ll go try it again tomorrow. Can’t exactly take the locks from the hardware store out to the car to try em out these days. There’s a number 3 on the end of your lock so I think that’s the lock size. I’ll try that and a 3” shackle instead of 2”. Sheesh.

 

Go to ace hardware and they will let you (assuming you have one located near you).

 

You're welcome, make sure they have a thinner shackle. Compare them to the other locks on the shelf.

Yes, I did just that. Ace let me take the locks outside and open the packaging. Super helpful.

 

Tried that 6 months ago when i lost my 2nd key. It wasn't much cheaper. maybe 10%. The cost of the key fob was driving the pricing they told me.

I did go to the dealer this time but it's part of an insurance claim so I'll be reimbursed for the cost. Car was stolen 11/8 and recovered that evening with no damage. Thief ditched the 4runner but kept the keys he stole from my house so I had to tow it to dealer and have it re-keyed. They only had one fob in stock so I went back Tuesday for a 2nd. Close to $1400 in total cost for the re-keys from the dealer. Luckily insurance will pay me back.

True Value Hardware folks in Santa fe let me open and test a lock. (Love small towns) First one fit like a glove. Went w the 2 1/2 inch, smaller diameter shackle, Master lock.

Just got the Cali Raised sliders delivered so that’s the next project. Probably install them over the Christmas Holidays.

 

Since we don't have KDSS its gonna be an easy install. May be even Friday afternoon job if you don't plan to apply some rust proof paint on the frame. I got a RSG slider install video on my Pro.

On my slider order, Cali performed as per their published lead times. As for the FedEx shipping, that was a Charlie Foxtrot. Sat at Cali for a week after the order was released for shipping. Not sure if it was a Cali problem or a FedEx snafu.

 

Easy peasy install, even with KDSS. Line it up with a floor jack and bolt it on. One man job.
