What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Pretty standard disclaimer for any aftermarket self made bumper hitch solution. The expense for 3rd party testing / validation is prohibitively expensive. Will it be able to tow the factory weight? Yes. They simply can't say it is certified to do so. Often people will chime in on liability if it should fail, lawsuits and the world of fire and brimstone. Assess your risk tolerance accordingly.. maybe adjust your personal umbrella insurance policy.

Wait to people find out that all the molle panels they have installed are also not certified / rated for any weight and those are installed INSIDE the cabin and loose cargo will definitely severely injure occupants during even the most minor accident.

bought a quality hose that matches my trim and washed the wheels again to piss off that member it pisses off

 

$100!?!? for a sunshade. Insane.

I have a $30 Amazon special that fits snug all over and folds to about the size of a paper plate

 

To each his own, but mine is like that one only not TRD and cost like $80 and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I pulled the trigger on a set of wheels, to replace the 1 bent wheel would have cost about 1/2 the cost of all 4!
So new wheels it is!

Today I installed a set of cross bars on my roof rails. I was shopping around and planning to get a set of Thule bars until my buddy told me about a set that can be had from Harbor Freight for less than $90.

I figured I would try them out and if I don’t like them I could put them on my wife’s rav4.

So far, so good. The install was a breeze, and they lock on one side to prevent thieves. Not bad for the price - the Thule bars I was looking at were almost $500 for all parts. They probably don’t have the same dynamic load rating as Thule’s bars, but the most I’ll have on these will be a roof box. No RTT for me, but my buddy has them and has an RTT mounted. He did over 100 nights of camping last year and had zero issues.

Just another case of a friend helping me spend money on my runner, though admittedly it was less than expected haha.

Put new tires on the 2018 today. Went with Nitto Terra Grappler G3 265/70R17XL. Only put about ten miles on them so far but they're very quiet on the interstate.

 

I’m a little late replying to this, but here’s a so-so pic of it. Also, just did a 100k mile check yesterday and all it needed was new coolant.

 

I did the dash speaker swap out for some Kenwood Excelon 3.5” co-axials. Advice: don’t bother buying the adapter rings, I used the passenger side ring with a bunch of fiddling, then the drivers side was a non starter, so I just cut a portion off the OEM bracket and everything bolted up easily. They definitely improved the sound, worth the effort and money to me. Also did an oil change and fluid check with 5-30 Mobil1

 

just kidding though..
..I only cleaned 2/4 wheels the other day so I just finished that up.

 

Installed Rear storage rack.

 

was a trans drain and refill done prior to 100k

 

I changed out the winter tires and swapped the front brake rotors under warranty for being warped for the second time. Each set only lasted about a year.

 

I switched to Powerstop Z36 pads and slotted rotors. Huge Difference!

 

Looks good!

 

If these crappy CarQuest rotors keep warping every year I may never need to pay for new rotors again.

Sidenote, one downside of long travel Rear suspension is, you cannot jack the car up off the ground high enough for the rear suspension to be at full droop. Shit barely fits in the garage as it is lol

 

is lifting by the rear diff and using jackstands on the axle tubes an option to get the tires off the ground easier with long travel?
