What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

No magnets, but I did use some pieces of Velcro (the soft side) to get them to fit tightly, no rattles and they don't budge at all from normal driving. If you want a set PM me.

 

Down at least 200 horses without the TRD intake.

Went back to stock myself. It's sad that the build quality is so bad on the TRD intake, never liked how flimsy the air box connection was. I had to add the Maggie to make up for lost HP.

Same experience, replaced the TRD bottom box twice before I gave up and went back to stock. Ordered for the third time before selling it. Did not experience any difference on HP.

 

As I understood it, AEM or K&N manufactured the intake. It was AFE back in the day which is why the TRD and AFE looked exactly alike. I'd get something else but I'm in derpifornia so I'd have to have an out of state buddy order and ship it to me.

 

The Maggie is indeed the only "Real" cold air intake mod. I too will get rid of the K&N filter one day when I runout the cleaner/oil system. Anyway, live and learn.

Finally got around to installing the victory4x4 trailer plug relocate. Reciever hitch and exhaust tip i can handle drag on departure angle.

 

Deleted the leaky, janky @ss XREAS suspension. Huge shout out to @glwood54 for the assistance and the shocks. Knocked it out in way less than half the time. Extra set of hands and mechanical expertise helps a ton.

 

I had these on my old jeep jku and loved them. They were much cheaper then. They held up great against the climates.

 

Drivers side grab handle installed.

 

I put 150 miles on today, just to go visit my girl for lunch.

 

That's great to hear! Even a couple years ago when I got them they were somewhat cheaper. Like $200-ish give or take. Glad to hear they should hold up.

ya, what’s the diff between Jason’s and ktjo, or is that ktjo? (thought I heard it’s out of business, I dunno).

if you install an oe handle on driver pillar there’s much less finger/hand space because the driver trim doesn’t have the raised anchor points the passenger trim has, no?

The photo by @Hagglethorn is the oem passenger side grab handle, and I imagine mounted with Jason's bracket. I did that originally also. I then got the KTJO grab handle and A-pillar trim piece, and integrated it with Jason's bracket. You are correct - the KTJO trim and handle give you about 3/8" more finger room. This is what I'm currently running:

I have been looking for a drivers grab handle for a while now. Just tried to order a grey one and KTJO would not let me complete the transaction. it says it's still out of stock. Not sure about KTJO.

 

I think they shutdown and out of business. Lots of issues they had. Try something else.

 

I ordered the tan trim with plans to paint it. Took 2 months to show up, zero contact from KTJO. Recieved it last week.

 

Sorry, didn’t see this reply. The others are correct, Jason’s kit. Was going to get the KJTO kit, but it wasn’t available and then I started seeing things about them not being reputable… Finger room is a little limited with this method… Oh well.

 

Maybe I'm just not thinking it through, but what is the purpose of a driver side handle that the steering wheel doesn't offer?

Unlike the steering wheel, the stationary handle would let one exit the vehicle without movement.
My TJ has a cage and I always grab it when I enter and exit it since it has a 34"H doorsill.

 

Toyota apparently thought it has some value, as you can still find it on their $80k+ Sequoia, but not on the lowly 4Runner.



They had it for decades on the 4R then for some reason thought the driver didn't need it any more. And before anyone chimes in about deleting it due to the A-pillar air bag, there's an airbag on the passenger side with the grab handle there.

 

Sale just dropped on some stealth tail lights. Unsure of the quality here but the price is solid and I dig the smoked look.

I miss the handle. I had one in my 2004 4runner sport. I used it a lot. It helped me so I didn't drag my butt over the edge of the seat wearing out the seam.

 

Never like the idea of using the steering wheel as a means to get in/out of a vic. The whole application of force on the steering column in ways it was probably never designed for. I like rebuilding steering columns even less. Just me carrying forward superstitions from the long long ago.
