This is what I have done for 20 or so years now, has always worked great for me.

 

Turnbuckle for the back securement?
Magnets for the closure? Might not be enough for off roading...

 

My wife ordered 2 bourbon barrels as Christmas gifts. 1 for my neighbor and 1 for me! $64 for the barrel + engraving and shipping each.

Both came back with his name. He took the extra barrel for a family member.

My wife knew the assignment. She ordered another! She said she designed the logo on both barrels.

Again I didn’t purchase them. It was a gift and now I just love her getting annoyed with them on her previous vehicle!

 

I’m partial to the smoked morimoto XB Gen II. But that price tag is wild for something I almost break on trails at least twice a year.

That's fine too. Any gear would work (even reverse).

Applying the parking brake first before shifting into park is the important part

the main reason I like shifting into neutral is that once I let go of the parking brake, if the truck is slowly creeping, then I haven't pressed on the parking brake hard enough. Although a slow roll shouldn't hurt the transmission too much.

the steeper the hill the more it is important to make sure the truck doesn't roll freely when using the parking brake (putting in a gear that is not neutral will not let you check that)

 

Yep it took me a while to get used to it with my first automatic transmission. I also learned and grew up using stick shift so it was always put it in gear then handbrake.

I’ve noticed my wife’s 2021 corolla automatically applies the parking brake when shifting to park. Cool feature

With my manuals, I always did it the same way as I do with automatics.

Put it in neutral, apply parking brake, put it in either 1st gear (manual) or park (auto).

This is the way.

I sometimes cheat and stop with the parking brake whilst selecting neutral. Shift to park after the rig is stopped...

I drove my friends 5th Gen recently. He had parked on a hill with no parking brake engaged. Shifting from park to drive was noticeably more difficult. Made me cringe a bit lol.

We're all massive nerds for having this amount of mechanical sympathy by the way

After I retired while still holding a CDL, I'd catch myself trying to put out chock blocks on my personal vehicles.
"Hey dummy, you don't need to do that anymore" But in my own defense, I used to have a driveway that was a solid 20 degrees towards the bottom and a solid 30 degrees at the top. That ment if there was any consolidation of pine needles the 4R would just slide down the incline towards a 4' drop-off at the bottom. Thank goodness that there was a flat parking area that required a hard left hand hook to park there. If I had to park on the incline, I made sure that I shifted the T-case lever in to 4H and also set the P-brake.
