I read and research and compile data about a little of everything to try and learn something because I don't know anything about these. I read about the pros and cons of the two different injection systems and the EGR issues and I thought it might help in getting the back of the intake more clean. I did have a misfire code and it took a bit to get my mileage average back, but it's getting better mileage and running smoother. I'm at 17.5-18.5 mpg with 33s with a lot of short trips and all around driving. I could get 20+ mpg on a regular haul or interstate. I get better average mileage not using my Pedal Commander anymore. It will run you out of gas will miles left on the range. I don't have any lugging or hesitation anymore. High mileage helps that I believe. I remember in 2007 we had a new Tacoma and Camry that had the accelerator stick, and we couldn't replicate it or cause it to happen. One woman ruined complete set of brakes trying to stop it instead of shifting to neutral. It was an issue nobody could really solve. I assume it was EMF interference and they changed something to shield it more and create the sluggish response. My 2001 4Runner was first year of no throttle cable and it was not sluggish at all. Always wait until the end of the 3rd year of production choosing a Toyota. Any identified issues are usually fixed in production by then.

I filled up with regular ExxonMobil for $2.23 a gallon. I don't even worry about the discount anymore.

Took it to the dealer for its 2nd oil change. Have 9400 miles in my 24 ORP. She’s growing up and losing the new car smell.

I’ll do the oil changes myself once the free ones are gone—have 6 more to use up.

While there, they offered me $49k for it. Said no thanks, planning keeping her forever. But I test drove a 24 GR86–wish it wasn’t a 4-cylinder.

Next time see if the have a GR Corolla you can test drive, try that sweet 3 cylinder life. I've owned 4, 5, 6 and 8 cylinder vehicles and 3 cylinders is definitely a unique drive.

I know. I’m nervous as hell but my husband thinks I’m crazy for wanting to do it myself when they do it for free. He doesn’t have the same attachment to the 4R like we do.

They said no first. I told them I take it out in “non-normal” conditions (dirt, snow) and so 5k oil changes are warranted. They agreed so they do it every 5k for me.

Cash. They offered it before I brought up test driving the GR86. But I figured they knew I’d need a different truck/car if they bought the 4R. ‍♀️

It’s a rite of passage to do your own oil changes. It’s easy.

He’ll be attached to it once he has to drive you to the dealership because they effed something up on it and The dealership denies they did anything wrong

I know, I’m always questioning if the dealer did it right. I’ll just do it from now on for peace of mind. I’ve watched enough videos, read lots of advice here. So I’m confident I can do it.

Do you or does anyone here trust the dealer to do anything? Any of the required maintenance (besides the oil change obviously)?

Depends on the dealership. Not all of them are trash.

But what it really comes down to is the tech working on your car. Do they care or not?

That's the hard part because you have no control of who works on it.

There you go and you have a bunch of us here to help you if you get in a pinch too!!

I dont trust any dealership or chain shop. I have a local mechanic here where I get all my cars inspected and only use him for any work that I am unable to perform on my car.

That’s not reassuring. I have those and love the coverage. I even bought a set for my other car.
How many miles did you drive it in the past year?

    This is 100% correct!
I hope my tech at the dealership is still there until I’m gone.

Doing some road tripping, tossed in E0/100% gas for fun and saw just over 22 MPG instead of the 20 +/- 0.5 MPG I’ve been getting thus far.

(granted, speed was slightly lower that segment but still above 70 MPH, but it’s in line with my very rough 10% improvement estimate)

Not worth the higher price, but it was for science!
