What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

overtook 4th place. oh wow the wise and controversial @Borracho Loco is making a run

 

Racked up 800 miles so far this week, going to a trade show (almost 20mpg for the trip!).

We’ll likely add another 300 this weekend, headed to a “Saturday job” site, then repeat that run next weekend.

 

I raked up 1100 miles in the last 1 week. All local driving averaging around 18.5.
I have to say, despite the abmysal acceleration, handling and NVH, this is one
of the most comfortable vehicles this side of the S class. That butter smooth OEM ride quality with that over assisted steering is addictive.

I did my 35th or 36th oil change. 2nd one with 5w-30 Valvoline Ext Performance. I do a lot of idling and Interstate driving, so I usually change on a 3k schedule. Also installed new clips for radiator cover. Got on Ama Zon and fit just like originals did.

 

I have the same clips and they work just fine.
How has your experience been with 5W30? Do you cycle between 0w20 and 5w30 or use only 5w30?

This is only my 2nd round with 5W-30. MPG seems to be about the same. Engine seems a tad more quiet. Which is what most people report. And honestly, after watching all the Motor Oil Geek videos, I feel I'm getting better engine protection for the type of driving I do. I'll probably just stick with 5W-30 unless a Snowmageddon happens in KY. Lol

 

I have been wanting to run 5W30 for the longest time, atleast through the 9 months of Texas summer. But with over 200k miles, I am not sure how the engine will respond to change in viscosity. How many miles do you have on yours?

 

139K. I was skeptical too, until I watched The Motor Oil Geek videos. I don't even use high mileage oil either. Heck, GM told people to go from 0w-20 to 0W-40 with their engine fiasco. However, the main reason 0W-20 is specified in our 4Runners is to meet CAFE standards and maximize gas mileage.

saved this link, seen the postings yesterday, nice to have a viable non-OE option fo radiate cover clips. The OE clips are quite nice tho.

I would be very surprised if the change was noticeable. 0W-20 and 5W-30 are pretty close from the get-go but since you're already over 200k miles, sounds like 0W-20 has been treating you well. (I've used leftover 5W-30 myself in the past but settled on 0W-20 to keep the thinking and purchasing simple for me.)

 

I ordered led fog lights from 4runner Lifestyle and some new tweets for the dash, going to piece together the sound system.

The man is replacing the tweeters, maybe more, perhaps doesn’t want to drop over a 1000 on the entire 4R sound system lol. I can afford it, doesn’t mean I feel it’s necessary

 

I went with the Infinity dash speakers (and mod) and kicker speaker kit from trailgridpro, bought the Kicker amp from worst Buy. I installed the speakers myself, had those guys do the amp (which they were actually extremely proficient with), and the sound is night and day different from factory.

I have an 04 Buick Century with a badass system, we call it 'Gramas sleeper'
I'm not doing a system in the 4r that will piss off the nabrs, we have that!

I wish I find an expert locally here in CO. Many think trunk shaking bass and the sound been so loud other vehicles around you hear your music is the way to do it. I absolutely hate such vehicles come near me at the traffic light. So far every one of them have a bad taste IMO, and pretty sure non musicians.

My dream is to have high fidelity music in my vehicle where I can hear the same quality as at home. Even though I'm not a musician my profession but a musician at church & at gatherings I focus on many details with in a song, the instruments, vocals,... Maybe someday I will find a sound expert locally and make my vehicle audio system to be sweet as I listen to music at home.
