i know in the manual it says Molybdenum-disulfide lithium base chassis grease for the yoke, and lithium based NGLI No. 2 for the spider, but i am not sure if i should get the MobilGrease XHP 222 or the Amsoil NLGI #2. saw reports that the Amsoil one is better because it has more Moly, but im not sure its lithium based. thank you !

Another vote for green grease. If you're lubing your prop shaft it doesn't really matter you're already ahead of the game

I just grabbed whatever NLGI#2 was on the shelf at Home Depot. (manual says it works for everything on the driveshaft so)

Seems like 2wd would have 3. Front/rear universal joint + slip joint.

Amsoil is calcium-based, not compatible with the lithium grease already in the parts: https://www.amsoil.com/p/amsoil-100-synthetic-multi-purpose-grease-glc/

I use Castrol Pyroplex Blue NLGI #2 because it happened to be available in my local big box store when I went there.

The Mobil XHP 222 is a synthetic grease, and is really good on upper control arms with poly bushings, it will prevent squeaking and creaking of poly parts. NGLI 2 grease will work well on the U-joints and slip yokes.

^Saliva isn't strong enough to prevent viscosity and thermal breakdown. When you're 12 hours into shooting a scene, insist on only genuine Toyota P/N 08887-01206.

So Youtube University was wrong when they used a single grease and loaded the all 6 of the fittings with the single grease?

So Molybdenum-disulfide lithium base chassis grease for the yoke, and a different grease for the spider (meaning u-joints?)?

Nah. Any NLGI #2 grease for all of it. My second Toyota and I used the same grease on anything without issues. Having 2 grease guns is just pain in the ass.

I’m trying to find the actual reference, but I believe Toyota specifies lithium chassis grease as an alternative to molybdenum grease in the slip yoke. Personally, I use Mobil1 all around.

Found it in the owner’s manual:

These are all the three choices at the local harbor freight. Opinions?

I'm leaning toward the red; the black has molybdenum (not recommended for both different spots) and blue isn't labeled heavy duty (although it is lithium); the red does say lithium complex though; they are all nlgi #2

Go for the red, it's similar to Lucas Red and Tacky grease which is a NGLI #2 grease and will work fine on the U-joints and slip yoke. $10.00 is a pure rip off though, you can get Lucas Red and Tacky for less than that, just letting you know. If you have now or in the future any Poly bushings that require grease, use a silicone based synthetic, so they don't start 'squeaking', Good luck on your choice. Did you know NGLI has their own website? In case you want to research more lubricants.
