Before I picked up my 2024 4Runner, I drove a 2003 Tacoma PreRunner then a 2006 Tacoma PreRunner TRD Quad Cab for 17 years. I've wanted a 4Runner for many many years. The Tacoma trucks served me very well particularly when we had dogs. I camped in the back of my Tacoma trucks for years. Now I have graduated to an RV when I go camping but know
I could always sleep in the back of my 4Runner if I had to.

Depreciates faster than Tacoma, so I could find one used in better condition than Tacoma at the same price point.

Similar enough mechanically to the Tacoma that I'm familiar enough to fix the things that break on it. Common fluids and a few hand-me-down parts.

Short wheelbase to maneuver through traffic.

    Here's what I like about my 4Runner:

    1) Heated Steering wheel.

I have had heated seats in a few other vehicles, so that's nothing new and no big deal, but a heated steering wheel is kinda nice to have. At first I thought it was dumb or gimmicky. The last 5 - 7 days in the Dallas/Ft Worth area have been in the 30's during the morning commute to work. Turning that on and have a roasty-toasty steering wheel feels nice.

Fun Fact: The majority of the heat comes out at the bottom of the wheel. Not the very bottom, but the 8 & 4 position. That's the best way to describe I think. 10 & 2 is how they taught me to drive, but 8 & 4 gives off the most heat. Anyways... I like it.

I love that it's a squishy-pillowy ride, the simple maintenance, the simple interior, the amenities of a lux car (I have an ORP), the tall ride, the toughness of the engine and transmission. The truck is just a lovely vehicle in my book!

What is there not to love?

I like that my 2024 4Runner is paid off. And for a 72 year old Geezer the backup camera is a plus. (Last Toyota was a 2006 Tacoma Pre-Runner TRD)

LOL 30's & needing heat! 8f here yesterday am, that's where it's needed, especially on my L Thumb that I got frost bite on several yrs ago out plowing snow on a Friday night after watching Bruins win on my ATV. Weird fact is it was on my L H operating the winch & Not the R on the throttle. Had heated grips on that ATV too. Now Anything cold on that makes it hurt even when I'm dealing W/cold meat chicken or any thing.

Whenever I get into a "car" it feels like they need new shocks.

I have a 2nd gen, but even though I don't have a 5th gen, I want to add something that I like about it. The 5th gen is really better than the 6th gen. At least for now. The reason is, because it's been produced for so long with minor changes, there are SO many aftermarket/offroad parts and modifications for it. Almost like the Wrangler, but waaay better! And modified right, it'll go anywhere a Wrangler will. And of course the V6.

My favorite thing about mine is it starts every single time. The v8 is super and the transmission shifts very nice.

That, or put the 4Runner on a diet. Get it back under 2,000 kg (4,400 lbs.). When the fancy-pants 1UR-FE GX 460 came out, it was more than 2,300 kg (5,100 lbs.) or about the weight of a 2WD Tundra or a 1975 Lincoln Continental Mark IV. The old drag racer's rule-of-thumb was that for every 100-lb. drop in weight equals about a 0.1 second drop in ET.

I like that it almost never needs to be repaired and has never been back to a dealership since the day it was bought.
