Looking for a new set of 285/70/17s. My My Wildpeak AT3 Ws are dying. I had the Passenger rated. What are people putting on their rigs these days? I want the same size maybe keep with a P, stay with the lighter tire. These are on a trail/trdoff road wheel. I do have a slight run on reverse with a little turn. Want to get rid of that two, but I have lived with it for 3 years. Suggestions. Thanks.

I'm running BFG KO2's on my 21 Venture - but original size - 265. Image below. No complaints whatsoever. Fairly quiet for what they are, look great and grip like crazy in the mud/sand. Also running them on my FJ40 Land Cruiser. No complaints on the FJ40 either. Apparently the KO3's are even better, but not sure how they could be as the KO2's are great.

This is - of course - a subjective question and answer, your results may vary. :) Good luck!

    I've run BFG TA/LT (currently KO3) for 30 years.

    So far I've run Firestone Destination A/T's (P-rated) and BFG KO2's (C-rated). Both in a 285/70/17.

The Firestone's were great. They performed everything I needed them to and they were light at 42lbs per tire! They lasted me almost 80k miles but the downside is they are pretty mild for an AT tire.

The BFG's have been good. They are louder and heavier and I lost 1mpg when putting them on. I will probably get 50k out of them all said and done. They are the best looking tire, IMO.

Considered the KO3's for a minute and then decided against them because they got even heavier than the KO2's. I'm not interested in adding more unsprung weight.

Been going back and forth between the P-rated Mickey Thomson Baja Boss A/T's and the P-rated Yokohama Geolander A/T4's. The Baja Boss' get a lot of good reviews on here.

I think I'm going to end up with the Yokohama's to save some additional weight. Like the Destination A/T's they are light but they look more like a medium duty A/T. A good middle ground for my uses.

Check out the General Grabber ATx
They are great, ride great, look good, last forever, are not crazy loud, do crazy good in rain, snow, sleet, and heat. They are available in every common size, and load rating. They hold a balance better than any tire i have previously owned.
Those that have the BFG, i agree the older ones looked great. All of the newer ones wont last half as long as these Generals and wont hold a balance. My last two sets of BFG i had to rebalance like every 15,000 miles. I switched to General and now i rebalance and rotate these tires about every 40,000-45,000. Yes, i balance and rotate them for the first time at 40,000. They are that good, and last that long. My daily driver has a set of 285 General Grabber ATx with 126,000 miles and they just wont wear out. I balanced and rotated them for the first time at 40,000, and then again at 90,000 and have been running them untouched since. Yes they are starting to dry rot and i will replace them this next year after tax season probably. Just kinda wanting to get at least 130,000 out of them just for giggles.

    https://generaltire.com/tires/light-trucksuv/grabber-atx

They will take you anywhere, and last forever. Had a long haul into vegas one day with my truck and trailer and parked in a parking lot. Tires were so hot they melted the asphalt and left my tire print. These are tough tires. The Load Range E last FOREVER. My dually was a tow truck, hooked to a trailer and loaded its entire life. I had like 46,000 miles on the tires when i sold the truck and they were about half tread.

I've been running Toyo Open Country 285/70/17 A/T III in standard load since early this summer. I'm pretty happy with them. Local tire place didn't have any problems with balancing, Toyo has them listed at 46 lbs. each, and I don't think they are loud on the highway.

Balance perfectly. Like I said above, pretty quiet given the capabilities of the tires. I see you're in a Limited tho... I have one of those too and still have the OEM Geolanders on it (wife's truck). The KO2's are noisier than the Geolanders are. Hey one of my monikers and rules of thumb is: everything comes at a price > deeper and/or off-road tread patterns = the price is a bit of noise. You just know that going in. But with the KO2's it ain't much. Very livable. Compared to the wind noise the Yakima Mega Warrior rack makes on top (which I load up with stuff constantly - function over form - else, I'd remove it), I can't even hear the KO2's. I have never regretted the change from the factory Bridgestone M/S tires to the KO2's and had them on my Land Cruiser for a couple of years before I bought another set for my Venture. And, I had the 1st generation KO's on the Land Cruiser before the KO2's. They were also great tires and we wore them slick. Never a problem with them either.

    Good luck!

    Get used to it.

From here on out it's going to be some iteration of.....

    "What oil is the best"

    "Which tires are the best"

    "The 6th gen sucks"

"How often should I change my oil"

Love it. I know the size I want. I know what I can fit. I know blah blah blah. I’m just curious what people are running these days. At the end of the day I’ll probably resort to what I have. But I want to see if there is something better, or different or if people have taken a 180 from the Falken Wildpeak since three years ago.

I love tires and tire threads! Seriously. This is a discussion forum, if people just want to look shit up, use Wikipedia or something similar. They actually make new tires that can people can talk about. No shit! Now let's bitch about tires rubbing, that's bullshit. Go fix that, man!

I guess you dont need tbis forum then if everything has already been discussed.
I guess we can archive everything and be done with it.
So, search engines dont always bring you to answer you want.
But I digress. You can always just avoid these topics.

Seriously, the KO2s wont die at all. I got them on the taco for the past 5 yrs and over 40K and they still look like new.

OP, too many choices really. The sky is the limit on this one, but boy prices keep going up, I went to discount tire a few weeks ago for a rotation and everything is north of 300 bucks per tire on 285's. Gone are the days of 200 bucks +. Enjoy the search, so many choices.

I have the Cooper Discoverer ATP II's and love them. I've had them for a few months and they replaced Nitto Grapplers that came on my 2024 when I bought it used. Those things were loud and I was hydroplaning in rain and they had about 37k miles on them. These Coopers have been great and have that rugged look I wanted but really only needed something for regular road driving.

True. I joined this forum when I got my used 24 4R this summer and wanted to replace the tires bc they were loud as hell, I was hydroplaning and the tires only had 37K on them. I did so much research, googling, and combed through the posts here so I could make a good decision. I had tire search exhaustion lol. Once I chose my tires, I made a post here to share what I got, why I got them and how much I love them lol. It's good to see updated posts with experiences and anything new that comes up.

Were your Terra Grapplers G2 or G3? I’ve seen good reviews about the G3 on YouTube. Not sure how trustworthy those reviews are though.

Love my Duratrac RT's and it looks like they make them in 285 but they are in E load. Glad i stayed with stock size since they have 265 70 17 RT's in XL load that's much lighter.

They were Ridge Grapplers, that's all I remember. They looked good, but they were rugged and so loud which is not what I like lol. I dont do off roading and just drive local and highways. Wanted something that did well in rain which we get a lot of and decent gas mileage and that were quiet. Basically I wanted a good road tire that had the rugged look.

Cooper makes a great affordable tire. I had AT3's on my Tacoma which worked well, however I wanted something more aggressive for the 4Runner.

i have Falken WP AT3 in 285/70/17 SL on my 2011 and ready to change them (getting low on tread) to Falken Rubitrek 285/70/17 SL on 11/1/25. Ive heard really good things about them. When the same tire in my 2022 wheres out, Im switching those to the Rubitreks as well since I do more hwy driving then offroad and dont need an aggressive tread.
