Isn’t it weird how you go 45 and it’s bumpy then hit 55-60 and it smooths out. And then if a car passes you it smells like corn?

We've had E15 for awhile now. I use it most of the time when it's available, especially if the price is a decent amount cheaper than E10. I have never noticed any difference in fuel economy, otherwise I'd probably pay the extra 5-10¢ for regular 87.

Hopefully these knuckle heads label the pumps properly.

I see a lot of people buying this unknowingly and messing up lawn mowers, leaf blowers, my biggest scare boats.

What bunch of bs and another dog and pony show.

I would think it would be illegal not to specify this at the pump. In Wisconsin, even E10 has a label on the pump.

Luckily, in some areas we can still get ethanol free, but it's usually premium only. This is nice for boats and other small engines, though.

E15 won't hurt newer vehicles, though.

Edit:. If it's not labeled at the pump, how do you know who is buying it?

I have never seen E15 here in Michigan. I just saw some idiots on our local news saying beware of it and the coast guard issuing warnings here.

We have lots of people with trailer boats in this area and supposedly the coast guard blamed one boat fire on E15. Who knows the true story since it was the news though.

I read a month ago stations needed special hoses and filters for e15 also since it ate up hoses etal so many stations around here anyway would have to invest the equipment to sell it.

So, maybe people are just using it without knowing any better. :notsure:

I could see it being an issue for some boats, especially older ones. But, I'm curious how it would cause a fire.

It seems weird that they would need to retool the pumps for E15 when E10 has been the norm for so long. Are you sure they weren't talking about E85?

It’s hard to get accurate timely information, but I read where 40% of the US corn harvest goes into making ethanol for blending with gasoline. And the growing and harvesting of it has increased the industry’s use of diesel and fertilizer. Who knows if it’s an environmental benefit. It certainly helps the ag industry.

So it seems the deal is that the Environmental Protection Agency will issue an emergency waiver permitting year-round sales of E15 gasoline. It used to be banned in the summer months in certain parts of the US for air pollution concerns. Apparently it evaporates more readily in hot weather and causes more smog. Now it can be sold all year everywhere, but it’s not mandatory.

The idea of bio fuel is a total scam. The math doesn't add up, growing corn to use as fuel is an energy negative process, it means that we spend more energy making it than we get in return. Now consider the amount of water, fertilizer, and land wasted too. Biofuel is literally burning through other finite resources, mainly land and water.

Then you consider that using food grade corn as fuel means less corn goes to the supermarket. We now get to pay more for food sense a significant portion is being diverted for ethanol.

Lastly there is the principle. Diluting fuel with ethanol might sound like a good idea but its terrible, gasoline that could be stored for years now only lasts months in storage before coming unusable varnish. The gasoline that does get burnt delivers way less power, ethanol is way less energy dense. All this talk about it costing less is political pandering, the fuel cost less but it's also less potent so you end up buying more. That .15$ price cut is a total mirage, any politician pushing for ethanol can shove those 0.15$ "savings" up their...

There is a lot of bribery *cough* I mean lobbying going on. Corn growers have a huge budget. If you wanted to help poor people you wouldn't change the fuel so that it bricks their vehicles fuel system. That .15$ is nothing when you weight the real possibility of the higher ethanol eating up old fuel lines and ruin older vehicles.

If the ethanol was made from food scraps instead of virgin corn, the environmental aspect might work out. But we in the US choose to divert perfectly good corn. Bio fuel is the worst thing to happen to fuel since TEL gasoline. I hate how advocates say one thing, but don't look into it and realize it does the opposite.

Agreed, not to mention that the lack of agro imports coming from russia/ukraine are really going to hit the food production really hard, so sure let's use up more corn.

Heck the price here went up $.30 just this morning so screw 10 cents from ethanol savings and even the taxes some states are cutting.

Get used to less for more not only with oil but everything.

All of us are becoming more poor each day from inflation at 8 percent per month and oil etal. I don’t know too many employers giving matching raises to inflation each month.

I don’t think the 4R can burn greater than E10. I have to double check my gas cap and manual.

This inflationary period was easy to see coming since 2020.

    It won't last forever.

But if you didn't see it coming, you had your head in the sand.

The smart people prepared for it.

This is a general comment. Not pointed at anyone in particular.

It's definitely becoming a struggle. I can't really afford to do the stuff I've been doing for the last few years.

E15 is fine in pretty much anything built in the last decade or more. The 4Runner runs fine on it.

That doesn't mean I'm a fan of it. I only use it because it's a little cheaper, and there's no noticeable difference in fuel economy.

There wasn't much I could do to prepare for it. Aside from changing my lifestyle significantly, these gas prices were going to screw me no matter what. All I can do is travel less, and/or spend less on other frivolous things.

No doubt. Some people could not prepare.

When free money was being handed out, a lot of people seemed to be spending it on frivolous stuff. Outdoor equipment from every segment went nuts, just as an example.

Basing off how much those purchases (and others) were overcooking the economy, it was easy to see what was coming.

My opinion is that money (and some additional) should have been saved to offset some of the pain that was on the way.

I get it though......some people didn't have the luxury of saving that money and I feel bad for them. But there were A LOT of people spending money on A LOT of crazy stuff so they don't have much room to complain right now, IMO.

the only way I could prepare would be to find a new job that I can make more money at. But, if I do that I lose my seniority, which once employers start cutting jobs, I’d be low. So I am prepared in that sense, but my family will have to soon switch from Mac and cheese to Ramen. It’s not that bad, but seriously the bank accounts are shrinking quicker than I can replace it, even with all that free money we got.

Yep I just saw metro Detroit city officials on the news saying they are considering cutting back on police patrols, cuts to fire department as well as consideration to less lawn maintenance.

Just another reason for more crime I can see also.

    Nothing like more good news!

mind blown. 15% corn and E85 arent the same thing? I figured it was subtracting percentages from 100…. Good lord what a mess. I feel like they’re going to be issuing a silver alert on me soon, shit’s getting a bit confusing.

I almost accidentally used e15 or e85 at kwick trip because it’s right to the left of regular 10% corn fuel. Pretty sure it was E85 because I confused that with octane(probably intended confusion?). I need to look this stuff up and edumacate myself.
