Hello, I'm a new member. Just traded my 2016 4 Runner in for a 2019 TRD Off Road today. I read someone's thread about a newly installed MAF Sensor. Did you do it yourself or did you have a dealer do it? I'd like to put one in my new vehicle but I don't know about waiting for a break-in period or voiding the warranty. Any info is greatly appreciated!

I think so. The small black box that basically re-tunes the engine more effciently. Supposedly better gas mileage and MPH.

Worth it? Maybe, maybe not... Do you have an aftermarket intake? Full exhaust upgrade? Will this be your only performance upgrade?

This can help re calibrate for running an aftermarket intake but if the vehicle is stock i wouldnt plan on getting very much gain.

I am going to put a cold air intake on for sure. However, I put a K&N CAI on my 2016 4 Runner and the vehicle basically rejected it. It killed any kind of pick up the vehicle had and the gas mileage plummeted. I sent it back to K&N. So I'm leaning towards the TRD CAI. I'm open to thoughts on that too. But overall, I'll put the CAI on and then do the URD MAF Calibrator.

I had an AFE Momentum GT CAI and the URD MAF Calibrator on my 2013 FJ Cruiser and it was a noticeable difference. I traded that in on the TRDPRO I have now. Both the CAI and URD MAF Calibrator bolted right in and plugged right up! I put this on with 172 miles on my 4Runner and I've never looked back. I did confirm that all parts were compatible with URD before I installed them... but amazingly there are MANY bolt holes on the FJ cruiser inner fenders and firewall which are identical to the 2019 4Runner I have...

Did you install both the CAI and calibrator at the same time on the FJ? Or did you get the CAI, then later add the calibrator? Im interested to know if adding the calibrator afterwards is what made the difference.

I have thought about adding a CAI and calibrator... Just not sure if the cost to gain is actually worth the price to play. I already have a magnaflow exhaust, but that was installed purely for sound. I would guess adding the CAI and calibrator would gain a little, just dont think it would be much. Though i wouldnt do a CAI without a calibrator. The engine isnt tuned for more air, and often times any intake that lets more air in also lets more debris in. If the engine cant use the extra air, no reason to add extra debris.

In a perfect world id go forced induction, new headers and Y pipe, CAI, and full tune... But a perfect world is too rich for my blood LOL

I bought both from URD so they were calibrated together for the FJ... when I emailed URD to confirm the compatibility of the 13' FJ and '19 4R they said if I had not changed the CAI then both would work perfectly on the 4R.

So I installed both since they are a tuned pair.

Called OEM today about a TRD CAI for a 2019 off Road 4Runner. He said they don't have one yet since it has not been approved by California standards. Has anyone put a K&N CAI on a 2019 4Runnner? I put one on my old 2016 4Runner and the vehicle rejected it. Power and acceleration dropped and it sucked down gas. I had to return it. Nervous to go the K&N route again.....

Think I'm gonna do what Cameraman did and get both from UDR and have them calibrate them together. AEF gets awesome reviews.

Whoever you talked to does not know. Its 50 state compliant. His books probably not updated but in another thread others had no problem with a 19, said they stopped by the dealer and they gave them a sticker to put on

Yeah, seemed like it didn't add up. Need to find the part number for that TRD CAI. But...that AEF momentum seemed good too. IDK if there's much of a difference.

Thanks ForRun! Do you have any opinion on AEF vs. TRD as far as CAI's go??

Not yet. My Trd is being delivered this weekend. I'm sure aef is fine, I just prefer OEM if its offered. I have the trd exhaust and am hoping it's a good match

Please let me know how it goes! Are you installing it yourself? Are you gonna follow it up with a MAF calibrator?

Will do, yeah, the install looks easy, just need to carve a wire outta a wire loom and route it to the MAF sensor, some say all in 1/2 to 1 hour. With TRD no reason to calibrate the sensor

I installed the TRD intake a few months ago. You could likely get it done in an hour. However, I recommend to follow the instructions for install or it could take a lot longer!
It was all very simple. Longest time was making it look factory. I did leave the engine cover off. I like the look of an engine, not a plastic cover!

Very sharp! where did you order your CAI from? TRD told me that if it didn't fit, I was outta schlitz...no returns. I was think about one of the other retailers. Yours looks perfect. Did you have to do any cutting or trimming to make it fit? Is your CAI model #PTRO3-89100 TR?

    Thank you sir!
In ordered it from Lewis Toyota in Topeka Kansas I believe.
Only cutting was to separate the wires for the MAF (first pic). Real easy, just be careful not to cut the wires.
I will get part number when I get to my shop.

Here is the box it came in. We ordered it on the 40% off sale for 40 yrs of TRD last spring. That will likely never happen again. 20191012_110739.jpg

I am running the S&B with the URD. I am using the AFE Momentum GT tune. I also run a PC. Love them both. Installed the URD and Intake in at the same time. Love it all!! Truck runs so much better. Just came back from a trip to Anza Borrego for the

weekend from San Diego. Some highway and lots of back roads, played around in the washes and trails. Just filled up today. 17.7mpg that’s a solid 2+mpg more than without intake and URD. I couldn’t be happier!!

Oh and that calculation is long hand not the computer. When I reset the trip the computer was showing 17.5.

Dbgw5. Iam thinking of buying the URD MAF calibrator. Have the S&B and a Gibson exhaust. So would you recommend getting it in your opinion. Thanks for your input.

for a follow up on the URD - I road tripped last week from Tennessee to Florida and back. I got 18.4 mpg overall. Almost all highway driving. Thats with the URD recalibrator and AFE intake seen above in the photos.
