I’m heading to Portage Wisconsin for a wedding, I need to be there October 8th.

I’m thinking instead of flying I might just drive out with my 5 year old camping our way from Colorado, getting there a week or so early and doing the Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail.

Would anyone be up for trying to legitimately putting it on the calendar and making it happen?

Which day(s) would you want to hit the trail? And, are you thinking of doing a day trip, or trying to cover the whole trail?

    I'm interested.

We might be able to get a few of the Wisconsin guys along as well.

Iowa has the T.I.T. goes well with the T.W.A.T. :D

The Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail isn't a trail, really. It's a series of fire roads, gravel roads, and highways spanning Wisconsin from north to south.

There are some interesting areas, but it's mostly a scenic drive through Wisconsin, and some of Iowa. I must admit that the section in Iowa is one of the coolest parts.

One of the best ways to make a day trip is to start in Lansing, IA and cruise down to Potosi, WI for beers and food. The brewery has good food, beer, and a beer museum. There is a nice park in Potosi right on the Mississippi river for group pictures.

It's all pretty tame compared to the scenery out west, but beautiful nonetheless.

To be determined. I’m good with running the whole trail and camping a night or two along the way if there’s legal opportunity. I’m also fine with doing a day trip. Even the best laid plans are in the air when bringing a minion with. To be honest I haven’t done enough research about the route yet.

Timing is flexible but I’ll be in the area (northern IL, southern WI) by October 4th at the latest.

Cool. If you want to do the full trail, it's said to be 2 long days or 3 easy days. I haven't seen the section from Clam Lake north yet, but I plan on checking that out soon.

Of the areas I've seen, nothing is really challenging. Some areas can be a bit squishy early in the season due to the spring thaw.

There is a campground at the north end of the trail called Point Detour. There are other camping areas along the way as well.
