    Folks:
I need to replace the turn signal assembly in my 1988 4Runner. It's the assembly that has turn signals on one end and the cruise control and wipers the other end. I'm replacing it because the cruise control button broke off.
I have such an assembly, but the part numbers don't match the part numbers for the assembly for an '88. It must be from another year. Are the parts interchangeable from one year to another?
There are subtle cosmetic differences among the years, but are there electronic differences? Can I install the assembly I have and expect for it to work properly, or just be safe and get that year's part?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I thought the cruise control was just a button on the dash?

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
It depends on the year, model, and so forth.

It's entirely possible the switch and other controls are mounted on te turn signal stalk.
