I’ve never been a fan of the two tone color scheme of the OR wheels. They give me flashbacks of the ugly wheels that American Racing was making in the 90’s. Like these.

This thread could go on for weeks and you'll never get a consensus. Just pick the one you like and go with it. Or flip a coin.

I have mat black TRD Pro wheels on my white 4Runner and like someone above stated, I chose them purely for looks. The TRD wheels are better for off road in that they are 7.5” wide, which is within spec for larger 285 tires, and they have the valve stem protection. Personally I think the TRD wheels made my white 4R look like a soccer mom mall SUV.
Having said that, I installed the TRD wheels on my 2001 Tundra and I think they look great.

We ran the O.R. wheels when we first got the 4Runner and after a parts-man at a dealership said "we won't order any Pro wheels, 'cause we don't want people to try and make 'fake' Pros". I didn't waste any time, ordered aftermarket wheels, run them now, but still have the O.R. wheels... basically new. 20200807_200946[455] 4runner.jpg 20200905_161649[511] 4Runner.jpg We kind of like both, never had 'Pro' wheels, but like them also.

I think the OR wheels look fine. They have only two negatives. They aren't black (HAS to be black to be "cool"), and they don't have any "poke". If only they were closer to a +10 or so...

Oh well. I'm keeping mine. It'll be a much easier transition when I go 285s after these POS KO2s wear out.

Just changed out the off road wheels for pro yesterday. Thought the black looked better on the lunar rock color. Don’t do any off road so no issue with the valve stems. Plus I was able to purchase the pro wheels with the Black Friday Toyota 25% discount with free shipping.

Black wheels are the same as black vehicles. You spend more time cleaning them than admiring how "good" they look.

I was of the understanding that 5th gen & 6th gen wheels were not interchangeable. At least that's the case with the newer Tacoma and the previous generations, all of which were compatible until the 4th gen Taco.

I read that the 4th gen Taco wheels will work on a 6th gen 4R, so it seems the two 4Runner generations are not the same. Different hub bore.

You could always split the difference and get the trail wheels from 2021-2022. They are charcoal off road wheels. Part number 4261135601.

Personal preferences for wheels definitely vary. When I bought my 21, the wheels/tires and the predator steps were the first to go before I took ownership.
TRD Pro wheels and BFG AT KO2’s took thier place.

Personally based on looks I like the ORP wheel better than the pro.

To me black wheels are a “fad” that will pass with time. I like to keep vehicles a long time and I think the ORP wheel will look more classic as years pass on.

Having said that I did consider the various gray styles a few years back. I think the best option is just find a bunch of side by side pics of your truck in white with various wheels and put them side by side and see what you like.

I got the older 4runner pro wheels when I had my 17 taco. Got them during toyoto's 40% off sale for the 40th anniversary. Kept them to put on the runner, they look nice, but the Offroad with some nice treads look really nice on my Lunar Rock. My plan is to put better off roading tires on the OR rims and better highway tires on the pros. Run the Off road in the warmer month when I am more likely to see some trails and gravel, then erun the pros with the more road worthy in the winter months.

How long does the “fad” last? 11 year fad so far.
I put TRD pro wheels on my 2014 when the TRD Pros first hit the market. I had a connection at the dealership that didn’t give me the VIN# BS. Bought them at a great price too.
    So the fad continues!

    Yet another folksy anecdote:

I first started to see black wheels make an appearance at the Auto Show back in the late ‘80s. There was a basement showroom where all the aftermarket products were on display. You know, carbon fiber body parts, graphics, floor mats, under-car lighting - I even saw Vince the Sham Wow guy doing his Sham Wow schtick in person - and there were also hundreds of aftermarket wheels. Mag wheels of every shape, chrome spinners, and black wheels. Since those days manufacturers seem to have followed the aftermarket, but black wheels have always had a J.C.Whitney feel to me. And J.C.Whitney always reminded me of the back page of a comic book, with all the ads for junk like X-Ray Specs and Sea Monkeys, but for car stuff. The ah-oo-ga horn, the skull hood ornament with the illuminated red eyes. The bull balls. Cheap tacky stuff. That’s the association I make with black wheels. Of course, YMMV.

Later black wheels became popular on 4WD vehicles because you could scrape up your wheels on the trail and then come home and hit them with a little Krylon. I knew a guy who was a painter by trade and once or twice a week he’d Krylon his boots.

I really didn't care for the wheels on my Pro when I purchased it in 24, but they grew on me and as long as they are clean, they look good.

I like black or dark gray wheels. Have any of you painted your OR wheels? I probably will when I get the next set of tires.

I painted my OR wheels black. Then sold them for sema wheels. Kinda liked the OR better, but don't regret the wider look with the sema offset.

    Stock so far…..except better tires.
IMG_1352.jpg We (and by that, I mean my wife) have a 2024 TRDPro in the Terra colour. I think it would be nicer if we had the bronze wheels instead of black.
Probably should have got a set and used them in the summer, and put the snow tires on the black ones.
But, we got a smokin' deal on some OR takeoffs, so they are the winters.

    oh well.......

Keep the original wheels. Save your money. I personally like silver wheels (silver steel wheels even better).
