For those who own a TRD Pro, please give me your thoughts about TRD Pro over just a SR5 Premium. I understand the difference but am considering one for an assumed better structure and just an overall better built vehicle. Is that a valid perception?

    No.

It’s the same vehicle. The only difference is the suspension and how you engage 4wd. Maybe a few other preference options but still the same vehicle.

My off-road premium had the pro rims, blackout package etc. Just didn't have the lift, Now if I want the pro grill, skid plate, oem fogs that's just under a grand. My coilovers and rear springs ran around another 1k..all in, 2k and change I could have a wanna be pro.
Level / lift can be had for dirt cheap of you don't care about the ride quality. All and all they were discounting the pros I may have considered it, but at the time a pro would have cost me 8k over what I bought

I was dead set on a pro until the dealer would not play with the numbers. In hind sight, it worked out perfectly. I love the 4Runner that landed on my lap. Good luck,

Between a Pro and a TRD Off Road, with the exception of a Fox suspension and a different roof rack, most of the Pro's features are cosmetic and badging, and can be added for a lot less than the 8,000 difference in price. The Fox suspension can probably be had as a take off from someone that upgrades the Pro suspension for around 600.00.

On my TRD OR Premium I have the KDSS, not available on the Pro, a Toytec 3" lift, SSO bumper and Smittybilt winch and a few other goodies and only paid 44,000 total. A stock Pro would have been 48,000 without the goodies.

I had to shop 6 dealers to find one that would at least throw in a few dealer extras on top of agreeing in writing to sell at MSRP. The TRD Pro is top of the line and dealers are only allocated a few each, which they usually sell at a premium to MSRP. Other than Army Green color, all I got thrown in is 3M, cargo mat and TRD Pro filter package. Ultimately, if you can wait, Toyota will build what you want at MSRP. Toyota is after all, in the business of building and selling vehicles.

I got the trd pro because off the showroom floor it’s good to go. I have a bad habit of putting money into vehicles then selling them at a huge loss.

I also got the pro because of the voodoo blue

I probably would have got the trail premium if they came in voodoo

My Pro was $46000. You don't have to pay dealer markup or msrp if you shop around.

I never considered the Pro. Not for what they are asking for them. I went with a TRD Off Road Premium (optioned with KDSS) for considerably less than they were selling the Pro’s for. I knew I was going to change the suspension and tires and considering what the minor differences were between the 2017 Pro and 2017 TRD OR (mostly appearance and rims) I opted for the TRP OR.

If comparing the TRD OR to the Pro the one thing the TRD OR has over the Pro is the KDSS. Pro’s aren’t optioned with this system. You’ll get people swearing it’s worth it and others saying it’s not. To me, the fact it improved road manners and offers a little bit more wheel articulation is enough for me. Also, it’s fully independent and removing it if necessary will not have adverse affects on other systems.

I feel, and strongly feel that the TRD OR > Pro for the fact it’s optioned with a system not offered on the Pro. If it were then the Pro would be top of the line/capable in the 4R line up.

Same basic structure just that the Pro is the top of the line offroad 4runner. Lots of people add the Pro parts which you can always do. I love my Pro and I wasn't looking to throw questionable parts on my vehicle to upgrade it so a right out of the box, top of the line 4Runner is what I wanted and works best for me.

The sr5 doesn’t have all the extra off road stuff like crawl control, etc.
    upgraded suspension
    Upgraded protection
    Special color
Leather interior / moonroof / heated seats

    I’m sure there’s other stuff

    I’ll call it too
Of the line when it’s optioned with KDSS. Until then.

Pro doesn't have leather either. Only the Limited does.

SR5 premium has SofTex (like the Pro),
    moonroof, and heated seats.

SR5s and Offroads come with the same springs and Tokico shocks.

I think the tire brand that gets put on SR5s and Offroad's is more of a regional thing, but I don't know for sure.

For example, I've heard of some Offroads coming with Nitto's (I think) while others come with Dunlops.

Mine came with the Dunlop’s and I’d have to look at the shocks and springs but I believe Tokico.

But, tires and suspension was < $6400.

It's the Nitto's that come stock on the Pro, right?

Yes the PRO comes with $6000+ Nittos including slightly better suspension than stock.

Meanwhile I bought Eibach/OME suspension with JBA upper control arms for $1500. Then bought BFG KO2's for about $600 after I traded my stock Dunlops for them at Discount Tire.

I have been using the rest of my savings, of not buying a PRO, on sliders, skids, interior accessories, roof rack, tow points, etc, etc.., and I still have money left over. However the tent I just bought has now put me over the price of a PRO, but I think I did pretty well vs buying a PRO. YMMV.
