Owned Toyota trucks since the early 90's, and only a couple of older 4runner's. Definitely a Toyota fan boy. But had a 21 Tacoma Pro until last moth and decided to get a new 4runner, and I have to say there's a Huge difference in quality from the Tacoma to the 4Runner. I know there completely different vehicles(leaf springs vs. coil springs, ect.), but the 4runner rides 50 times better than the Tacoma, grease fittings on the driveshafts, better materials inside (leather, door panels,an actual 4WD shift lever- like the older trucks/4runner's,ect..). Anyhow just wanted to say hello and happy to be new to this forum

Welcome! 4Runner looks great! Yeah, I test drove a Taco a year before getting my 4R. Great looking truck, still the best looking midsize truck on the road, but I couldn't own one. I didn't care for the seating position, and really disliked the feel of the drivetrain as well.4R is much more comfortable, and useful too if you don't need a pickup bed.

    Have fun with it!

Have a Tacoma now that I’ll be selling to get a 4Runner that should be here in a few weeks. Really like the way the Tacoma looks but after test driving a 4Runner for a couple days I was pretty sold on it.

I remember driving a Tacoma limited a few years ago before deciding on a 4R. At that time no power seat and at 5’10 I hated the seat comfort. That thing bounced around a lot as well and just did not feel right to me. It looked great but I just liked the ride of the 4R so much better.

What did you buy with the extra $25,000 you had left over from trading the PRO?

I test drove a Taco and then the 4Runner. The runner is in my driveway. Welcome aboard!

This is great, I was torn between the two and went with a 4runner. This just reaffirms that I made the right decision.

I originally wanted a Tacoma to put a cab on it to be able to sleep inside. But, once I realized I could sleep inside the 4R it was a no brainer. I do prefer the look of the Tacoma and they are a little cheaper, but when I added the cost of the cab and that they are prone to leak the 4R was a better option. Plus I had no real use for the truck bed from a work standpoint.

I was surprised at how many reviewers that had owned both really preferred the 4R over the Taco, unless they really needed the truck bed. No regrets and pleased with the decision. 12 months / 18,000 miles and not one issue!

I agree about the cover of the bed. I did not really need a pickup just something to tow a small boat. I had a BOF Explorer and thought gosh the 4Runner has to be better than the Explorer that served me well.

Most the caps I looked at still leaked some I was told. Then I noticed after bringing both home and putting in my garage how much shorter the 4R was. I still had room for my lawnmower and snowblower.

The salesperson commented also how much better of a build it was from Japan.

I have to admit I like the look of the pickups though. I really like the Canyon Denali look so sharp but I did not trust GM quality

if you did have an extra 25k from selling the Pro Tacoma, you should just buy another late model year 2WD 4cyl SR Tacoma for hauling dirty stuff or blending in west Texas BBQ joint parking lot.
