So I'm usually that person that trades in every 3 to 4 years. I currently have a 2014 4Runner Limited that I bought new and it has 70k miles. Navigation system replaced by dealer and recent new fuel pump due to recall. I keep up with the maintenance as scheduled. The last service I was told to prepare for brake linings and new tires. Body still in good shape except for some rust on hitch, which I see on a lot of 4Runners. Less than a year left on loan. I would like another 10 years is that feasible with the 4Runner? I don't want to start getting hit with repairs as the truck ages.

    My questions:
What's the highest mileage noted on the 2014 4Runner?

Any major problems and at what mileage did it occur?

Should I look into extended warranty i.e CarShield?

Heck, in one year it’s paid for! Perfect. It’s a timeless design, so I’d keep it going for a few years, especially if I had to borrow money to replace it. Why pay interest? Save your money, and pay cash for the next one. It’s amazing how rich you feel when you’re not making payments on everything you own.

No on 3rd party warranty, just do normal maintenance. Replace serpentine belt, water pump and what not at 100k for preventive maintenance. The 4.0L engines have clocked upwards of 400,000 miles. They’re solid engines. The 4runner is an expensive vehicle and maintains its value because it’s a proven reliable platform. Brake linings? I’ve never heard of that being done on a vehicle that’s only 6 years old. Sounds like gizmo to me. I would look for an honest mechanic instead of going to Toyota, IMO.

Toyotas can last a long time when you take care of them, also change the oil + filter regularly. If you live in a place where it snows then it would not be a bad idea to get an undercoat. A lot of people say that the factory anti-corrosion is good enough on modern cars, that is false. I see a lot of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generation 4runners that work fine mechanically and run fine but they get taken off the road because rust has made their frames unsound.

It sounds like you have a good rig with relatively low mileage and no payments to fool with soon. Sounds like a keeper.

Tires and brake pads, which i am sure the person meant, are normal wear items and to get 70K miles on both are with such a heavy vehicle is outstanding. Stay away from 3rd party warranties. I say keep it until the next generation comes out.

Yeah I thought brake linings were coming too soon. Especially since I do a lot of highway driving. Almost never in stop and go traffic. Thanks.

if you still like the 4runner, keep it! I've had well over 200K miles on both of my previous 4runners and traded them in in good mechanical condition. You will eventually have to replace some parts, but I wouldn't expect any catastrophic failure for a LONG time. I never had to replace anything major. Just maintenance and wear items.
