I feel bad for writing a post about rules. Mostly I would like to see more signaling as people approach intersections . . . easier for donuts

Why feel bad? I think it's a valid point. Signals are just that - you are signaling to everyone your intention so they know what to expect. Very important to other drivers and pedestrians. Useless if there is nobody there to see it but I guess you can feel good about obeying the law.

Are you advocating doing donuts in intersections? I think I like this guy

When I turn left on the red light I use my turn signal.

Not sure I've seen a lot of Groucho Marx. I've watched a few Charlie Chaplain movies recently - can't remember which streaming service they're on (maybe max?) but there were many I came across not too long ago and watched a couple. I know you were in the business, and I know very little about it, but I find movie history fascinating.

I made a weak attempt to pull it back on track once or twice but clearly more effort was put into derailing it. My apologies to the OP.

    There should a thread title:
“how bad can we derail this thread”

it would get a ton of action on this forum.

I apologize too. I’ll keep the central door locks, the electric windows, and the gps. All the other tech can go bye bye and I wouldn’t miss it. It could be worse though. My wife’s Atlas will parallel park itself.

So if it bumps a car while parking itself, who is responsible? Your insurance or the manufacturer?

I drove manual for at least a decade after getting my license. It’s too bad they are almost extinct. I would still drive one today but my wife also drives our Tacoma.

Love the manual trans in My civic type r, too bad I rarely drive it. Had it two years and only 300 miles on it lol.

I hear ya. My wife can't drive my Civic SI and there have been times that it was our only working car. It's a PITA having to shuttle her back and forth while she finds a new ride. I tried teaching her once but she just doesn't want to learn. She can only juggle two foot pedals at a time.

My brother, I didn't try to teach her with my Civic SI. That would be sacrilege. I had a buddy with a beat-up manual pickup to take the abuse. She damn near threw me through the windshield with one of her stalls.

You are responsible. Your insurance will pay the claim, and then retain the right to pursue damages against the manufacturer…

except that last bit doesn’t happen in this set of circumstances.

If any insurance you have pays a claim for which someone else should be liable, they will pursue that party for damages.

This is why you see weird cases where parents sue their kids - they don’t want to, but it has to play out that way for insurance purposes.

In civil cases juries are not supposed to know or even consider insurance when they render a verdict or damages.

I hate the lane departure thing. In the Prius Prime, I can feel the car pushing me back into the lane whenever I try change lanes at fast speeds. That's why I'm fixing my 95 runner. Radio and automatic read window is all the technology I need in my car

You wouldn’t feel that in the 4Runner. Only cars with electric power steering push back, and the 4Runner has hydraulic power steering. Besides, you can turn lane departure off.

What do you call changing lanes at fast speeds? Changing lanes without using the turn signal? I dont have a Prius Prime, but cars that have lane assist usually dont "push you back" when you have your turn signals activated

That's why people shouldnt assume putting their turn signal give them priority. Truck is still in the wrong even if he had activated his turn signal.

People need to understand they should use their signal AND change lanes when SAFE to do so, not as they activate their turn signal

PS: I'm not talking about you, just the people I see EVERY DAY on the road

I agree with this 100% but you have to understand the perspective of truck drivers too. I knew people who drove trucks who said they signaled, gave 3-5 blinks, then started changing lanes because if they didn't they'd be in that lane forever trying to get over. I don't agree with that position but I understand where they are coming from. When there is a ton of traffic and people are trying to zip around these trucks while they are signaling they need to get over and nobody is leaving space, they make space.

I wasn’t only talking about truck drivers but people in general.

Regarding truckers, I experiment with the best and the worst of them every single time I drive to flagstaff. Some of them are great and mindful. Others almost cut you off when you’re about to pass them on a 2 lane highway because they want to pass another truck going uphill and backup everyone behind when they could have waited a couple seconds to pass when no car present.

You're going to run into good drivers and bad drivers. From what I've seen truckers have a lot of experience (that's their job) and tend to pay more attention to what's going on than the average driver. Not everyone has a grasp of spacial awareness for even depth perception.

Will be interesting to see what happens with the self driving, battery powered 18-wheelers. I think CA just passed a law that the self driving trucks are required to have a driver present. Probably the most sensible law I've seen them pass in ages. The tech has a long way to go to be proven

OK, I finally got up to Denver last weekend to pick up my new ORP and sell my 2015 TP to my daughter who lives there and I will say that I am pleasantly surprised at all this new and upgraded technology! The blind spot mirrors were great driving around on the busy freeways in Denver. On the way back to Durango I really liked the lane departure warning and the dynamic radar cruise control but I could see myself turning off the lane departure warning when I am driving around in town. I'm even getting used to the keyless entry and push button start although I could easily live without it. I haven't tried the automatic dimming headlights or Apple CarPlay yet but I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks! :D

    Congrats!
The good thing with the 4R is that all the nannies can be turned off if unwanted unlike other cars. Like you said, it's nice to have certain features in a certain environment and being able to turn them off when the scenario is different

I’m on the fence. Part of me is very old school. I mean, I actually appreciate hand crank windows. I love manual transmission which is dead now. But, I appreciate the back up camera, Sirius XM radio, and heated seats. But I hate the idea of electronics failing. I was born in 76 so I kinda see the good ol days and the tech with this new stuff, and I’m split. I hate the cell phone addiction (social media) more than anything but that has nothing to do with vehicles
