A tow ring is always a good idea, but this is mostly for stupid people that rear end me.

looks great but remember if you get rear ended all that impact gets transferred directly to the frame.

How would that impact be any different than if someone hit the receiver?

if they hit the receiver they are also getting into the bumber a bit, with your setup the receiver will take the brunt of it. Just something I've heard of, also the knock against certain off road bumpers is that it just puts everything to the frame with no absorption of energy. :notsure: VMMV

Hate to captain obvious but the best thing to do is avoid getting rear ended, ;), which means don't tailgate people yourself and if someone is tailgating you just slow down and let them go around, brake early for when you have to stop, and look ahead and behind constantly for potential issues from a'holes.

I wholeheartedly agree. This being Seattle however, I've been rear-ended at a dead stop 6 times.

    Mike,
I wish I had your faith in humanity left in me. I have been witness to so much tragedy that I am jaded.
I was rear ended last fall & the driver escaped in rush hour traffic. People suck!
I was ticketed for the accident as I hit the person in front of me.

That's ridiculous. Yeah I drive very defensively and will even brake way earlier than I have to so maybe the moron texting and driving behind me realizes traffic is coming to a stop

There’s a foam buffer between the bumper cover and the frame. Low speed impacts will mush the bumper cover and padding before the frame. With your setup 100% of the energy transfer is directly to the frame and I can tell you, from first hand experience. If the rear frame is damaged, they’ll cut and replace and not total it out so, if you’re comfortable with this, more power to you.

    See above.

I’ve been involved in tow rear end collisions (both where the offender was uninsured). I follow the rule of tires and tarmac. I stop far enough behind to where I can see the car in front of me rear tires touching the pavement. Doesn’t stop someone from peering at their screen and ramming right into you.

Both uninsured drivers have ended up costing me over $1500 in deductibles and rental car.

    You should get this.

It would cause much more carnage to people who decide to bump you.

Put some mud in there so it sloshes around & makes the back of the vehicle brown!
You could mess with a lot of people's minds. LMAO

It doesn't take much force (speed) to tweak the frame when the hitch receiver takes a direct hit from another vehicle. Any force absorbed by any other parts can only help in avoiding frame damage.

That said, i might get a golf ball through the windshield when i drive by the golf course. I don't avoid driving by the golf course. But I try to remember to pull my hitch ball off when I'm not using it for the reasons already mentioned.

We all have different risk tolerances. If ya like running with a tow ring, I say go for it.
