Looking for some thoughts/recommendations on tires. I went from OEM/stock to Toyos on my first go around and they did not last long at all after religiously rotating etc. I am currently on a set of Falken Wildpeaks that have also been treated very well (rotate every 5-6k max). However, I now have a nail in the sidewall that the local tire shop will not repair due to their repair policy. They also noted they are at 5/32. So, it appears I am now in the market for tires earlier than expected, albeit it has been in the back of my mind to start researching.

If I am being honest with myself I have way more tire than I need on the truck now. The worst thing this thing sees is rough dirt roads, backwoods/logging roads and a decent amount of snow/ice.

That said, I am looking for some thoughts and or recommendations on less aggressive but not true 'highway' type tires. I am currently on Method wheels and should probably stay at stock size. I do have (god forbid) a spacer lift in front and rear so could maybe squeeze a little bigger than stock size, maybe...?

    Thanks!

Some, I will do some more. I was hoping for quicker, more up to date info if available as I may have to make a move quickly.

Thank you! I guess I was hoping there would be some overwhelming reason/opinion to choose one over another. Silly me. I guess I will struggle with some more analysis paralysis on this. I really want the magic in between tire that 'looks decent' (I know ridiculous requirement, but I like the current look of my truck). Ultimately I only care about being able to go out in the winter when it's awful out and drive beat up dirt roads.

    Thanks again!

after my falken wildpeak AT3‘s 285/70/17 wear out I’m going with the falken Rubitreks ATs 285/70/17 on my 2011 and 2022 daily drivers

Literally just hung up the phone to set up Friday for the Rubitreks, walked back in my office and saw this.

Hopefully they are a bit quieter than the 'worn' Wildpeaks and still get me where I want to go. Tread wear/life I guess is what it is.

Greetings TXKK626, I like the looks of your 265/70 R17s being spaced out a bit. I’ve been contemplating spacing out my 265/70 R17s just a wee bit on my factory alloy wheels.

Would you be willing to share the specs (width) of your spacers, and importantly, what BRAND of spacers you have? I only want to go with the minimum width spacers available. Even a 1/2” width wheel spacer would be good. (I don’t know- is there a minimum width that these spacers come in, regardless of brand? Thanks.

I have Goodyear Workhorse Tires on my 4Runner. You might like them. They are a little bit less aggressive than typical all terrain tires and the tread depth isn’t as deep. I’ve had them for a few years without any issues. They are quiet and decent in the snow. There’s around 50K miles on them now and the tread depth is getting pretty low, still legal but won’t be too great in snow this winter.

Exactly. And I believe the only size SpiderTrax offers for the 4R: https://www.spidertrax.com/products/1996-Up-4Runner

Note that it did require front fender liner push, a little trimming, and removal of front mudflaps, so I removed the rear flaps and installed Ark liners.

Out of curiosity what will you get for mileage out of your Wildpeaks before you need to replace them? I am wondering what the average tread life people are getting out of these AT type tires. I was hoping for a bit longer out of the Falkens than I got out of the Toyos, but it looks like it may turn out to be the same.

I also may be getting some more analysis paralysis before my appt tomorrow to get the Rubitreks put on... I should have just scheduled today so I didn't have time to think about it more. haha.

ive averaged 50-55K before I feel its time for a replacement on the wildpeak at3 in 285/70/17 SL. Can i run them down to 3/32” and hit 60k, sure, but to me thats not safe

Damn. Mine are going to be around ~30K. I believe it was the about the same ish for the Toyos.

I must be hard on them with my 'road/highway' driving habits I guess...

right now my current set on my 2022 are at 44k and they were at 6-7/32” in May 2025. I rotate mine religiously every 3k and maintain them at 32 psi cold.

I am at ~5/32. I rotate every oil change between 5-6k. Maybe 3k is the magic rotation number.

That said, the current Wildpeaks are almost exactly 2 years old with ~26k on them.

Again, could be that I have poor driving habits...

Or could be short daily driving with braking and turning cannot be compared to someone doing highway driving.
