Anyone that bought tire and wheel packages online have you been happy.
I'm looking at tire rack,e bay discount tire ect.
Also I want to get tpms installed at time of purchase.
Looks like with our 2021 I can learn the new tpms myself without going to a shop, anyone had experience with that ?
I'm looking at getting 17 x 8.5 wheels 0 offset and sticking with the stock size 265/70R17 tires, BFG, wildpeak or something with a good all terrain tread that has good road manors.
Any tips advise ect would be appreciated.
Thinking this should put tires even with fenders.
    Truck is a 2021 SR5 4x4
    Thanks

I’ve been impressed with TireRack. Nice to get a wheelset with tires already mounted and RoadForce balanced, and TPMS installed. They do a great job in my experience. Staff seems knowledgeable and they gave me no hassle about a return I did of 4 new tires after a few hundred miles. I’d definitely use them again.

I just purchased from discount tire. Rims were 17x8 0 offset, tires were Cooper at3 4s. Wheels came well packaged and took less than 2weeks to receive. What I liked most was they included black lug nuts. Only thing is tpms is generic and must be programmed. So far tire rides smooth, not sure if it is because the extra charge for special balancing.

When i had my Pilot I bought wheels through Tire Rack. Had same good experience. I think the tpms included was branded and self learning. Not sure about now. Best to call and check. Good luck!

You will need OEM sensors from Toyota. The newer Toyotas will not read aftermarket sensors. Get your sensors from the dealer and have your wheels and tires shipped and get them mounted locally. Yes, your 21 will pick up the sensors automatically. Once the wheels are on, go into your menu on the dash and reset the TPMS. The light will be on and it will go out and the pressures will read after a few miles. We just did this on our 2020 last month. We have Icon Rebounds in 17 x 8.5 with 0 offset and Toyo AT3's in 265/70/17's. Very slight rub on passenger side. I'll get pics for you...very easy fix with a heat gun.

Here are the part numbers. The sensor is 42607-48010. You will also need 4 of the nut and seal kits...they do not come with the sensors....part # 04423-33060. The sensors are $68.00 and the nut and seal kits are $6.00 each. Your dealer should price match.

Sensor is #3 and the kit is #5

This is the response I just got from tire rack. I was going to buy there sensors, now worried only toyota sensors will work

Thanks for your question to The Tire Rack. We will include the proper lug nuts for your car at no extra cost. The TPMS ID codes are stored in your cars computer and are easily recalled if the system has a malfunction. When you add new wheels to the car (w/ new sensors) these new ID codes need to be programmed into the car before everything will work. You can do this yourself with a professional TPMS tool ($275) or take it to any major tire delaer or your Toyota service dept.

You will need Toyota sensors but you will not need a TPMS tool to swap sensor ID's. When I get home I'll take pics of where you need to go in the menu to reset the system once you install them. The system will register and detect them. Older cars do need to be programmed but that is becoming rare with new vehicles these days.

Is there some reason I would benefit from buying online vs. just driving over to Discount tire? That's what I've done for years and its always been real seamless. What am I missing?

The OP may not have Discount Tire local to him. If not, the issue is that he needs OEM Toyota sensors installed in the new wheel and tire package.

I believe the closest discount tire is 100+ miles. That is why I was better off getting tie rack sensors but if they will not work then that's not an option.
I did read the manual on relearning a tpms sensor, just didn't know it had to be a toyota sensor

A few years ago a sensor was able to be cloned, but you still needed the tool to do it. The newer Yotas have become very electrical system sensitive and sensor specific. At $68 per sensor, OEM is the way to go and guaranteed to work.

Does anybody have actual experience using aftermarket censors that don't work, tire rack said they've never had a problem with their after market sensors on toyotas

I think the tpms they use are Schrader. Go check their website to confirm if it's a direct OE compatible.

Once again, they don't work. I have 3 Toyotas and have recently done sensors on 2 of them. The 20/21 especially are on different mhz sensors and ecu communications.

I'm gona look local and just get my current sensors put on the new rims. This should be the easy route with no worries

Tire rack uses Pacific brand TPM sensors per there sales person
They make Toyota sensors from what I read.

You can do that...it may cost almost as much for them to break the tires down and move them...up to you. I would be safe and get the seal kits though.

    Pacific makes toyota sensors.
Tire rack uses Pacific I guess there is a chance they will work.

My wheels from Discount Tire had tpms light go on the first day. It has been 3 full days and nothing since. I wonder if they put the sensor provided by Tire Rack. Since Discount Tire bought Tire Rack in 2021.

I spoke too soon. It's back on today but not bothered by it. Eventually I'll get it programmed. I just have a long list of mods that have priority right now. Good luck on your selection!
