I just discovered that my new TRD Pro’s tire pressure was 55 PSI (well above the 33 on the door, and even beyond the 51 max on the sidewall). A friend who’d bought one the same week from a different dealership also discovered his was over 50. I’ve also seen a couple of other posts around the internet with the same issue.

So it appears that someone at the port is significantly overpressuring tires, and checking tire pressure must not be on the dealer’s checklist. Be aware if you buy a new one these days.

So the question is - did this permanently weaken or damage my tires? Only drove < 50 miles before I discovered it.

Most new cars will almost always have inflated tires from the port. The dealer does little to rectify this though they should in their PDI.
But it is normally done to compensate for temperature changes and to prevent flat spots not knowing how long the vehicle will sit before it is sold.

They are setup with the high pressure for the boat trip. the dealer is supposed to set them to the recommended pressure of 33 as part of the PDI but there have been numerous reports on the 6G forum about dealers failing to do that (and subsequent harsh rides). I recently had a flat and the spare was at 55 psi.

They could be inflating the tires up so much to balloon them up to try to squeeze a few more mpg out of them. These tires inflated to 50psi most likely means only about the center 3” of tread is on the ground. This makes the tire balloon up like a bicycle tire, reducing contact patch on the road thus reducing friction to try to squeeze more mpg out of the lackluster mpg people have been reporting.
    OR
It could be like said above to reduce flat spots.

In this case I don't know what is the need to inflate to higher pressures as TRD Pros (atleast 5th gen) get TRD Pro stuff in USA. From roof rack to wheels and tires. Even to tiny TRD Pro badge. Could have just inflate to regular pressures just for the short truck travel to the dealership.

But I'm not sure if 6gen TRD Pros are fully built in Japan or not.
