    Hello there!
I could use some advice on selecting new tires.
    I just bought a T4R 2022 TRDPro.
I mostly drive on roads/highways but do some off road stuff as well 3 or 4 times a month. I drive over bare rough rock, obsidian, and also need good winter ability. I will be doing the White Rim road in Canyonlands soon, for example.
I'm trying to decide between the Falken Wildpeaks, Mickey Thompson Baja Boss, BFG All-Terrain TA K03, and the Mazama Open Range AT plus. My tire size is 265/70R17. My rig currently has the stock tire in need of replacement.
    I appreciate any help!

I’m definitely not a tire expert but I’ve had a few four-wheel drives jeeps Toyotas, and now a 4Runner

I have run multiple brand name tires, right now I’m running these
    TOYO OPEN COUNTRY A/T III

I am very happy with these on the road and definitely off-road. I go through mainly desert like rocky, terrain sand, and some snow and they have performed very well. I also air them down to 20lbs and they do great.

Have no experience on the above selection but I can tell for me BFG KO2 Load C had better grip on rocky, gravel terrain than Falken Wildpeak AT3W SL. Now they both have improved versions. So I would let those who run new versions to advice.

Currently I run Toyo Open Country AT3 in standard load. I don't feel like they have good grip as BFG KO2 off pavement use. But I love Toyo Open Country AT3 on road and light duty off pavement use.

My daughter ('22 4R TRD ORP) lives in Utah and is off the beaten path 3-4 times a month as well as on occasion w/the Moab Crowds. I'm out East and off the road to fish & do some photography. We both have relied on Falken Wildpeaks for a number of years. Really happy with their performance and have been a reliable tire on the highway too no matter the weather....
just my $0.02, Cheers and good shopping

I personally run the General Grabber AT X
It is my favorite, rides great, quiet, amazing in rain sleet and snow, super tough, lasts forever.
My daily driver has over 110,000 miles on a set.
I put them on every vehicle right when i get it.
They look tough and they ARE tough.
I rebalanced them and rotated them for the first time at 40,000 miles. This is FAR superior to almost every other tire i have ever ridden on ESPECIALLY the BFgoody that needs rebalancing almost constantly. You're going to have the shakes at 15,000 with the BFGs. I rebalanced them for the first time at about the same mileage most people are wearing tires out. I rebalanced and rotated them for the SECOND time at 90,000 miles. I have run these tires on dually trucks, 1 ton HD single rear wheel trucks, i've had them on 3 4runners, 1 tacoma, and 1 tundra. They are absolutely awesome at everything you can ask a tire to do. They look good, last forever, they are not loud, and dont hydroplane in the rain.

I feel like Mickey Thompson doesn't get enough mentions in this forum. I run their Baja Boss AT in 285/70/17 load E with stock Pro suspension and wheels. They've been wonderful on road and off road. Really quiet and super smooth. The Mickey's in the LT range is the most tough looking AT on the market IMO, the sidewall biters are deeper than the tread of most highway tires.

FYI: A lot of people get the infamous 55mph steering wheel wobble when switching tires. Make sure to get your new tires road force balanced at a reputable shop. The Mickey's actually made my wobble go away compared to my previous set.

I run Toyo AT3s and love them. I just replaced them and they still had good tread at 70k miles. Great performing tire. HOWEVER, I was recently at an off road shop and there were some mechanics standing around and I asked them what tire they would put on their rig. Without hesitation they said the Mickey Thompsons.

Just drove Potash and Shafer Switchbacks last week - along with several other trails in Moab.. Didn't do White Rim as you need a permit for that (buy online in advance). Falken Wildpeak AT4W were great. No lack of traction. Aired down to 24 psi

There’s too much “info” on tires out there
I’ve asked, looked, read, learned, n eventually got lost n just chose already

Good advice, bad advice=honest review of a personal experience VS probably just a bad situation

Read round bout this n that, but take it all with a grain of salt

One will suck in the rain, the other wears down wayyy too quick n don’t forget the one with weak side walls…or the fake rubber guy

Basically you started a thread bout who likes vegetables or fruit better, even though sometimes they technically get confused for each other…

Tires are important n worth $ n research, being used every time you start the truck…Well, no shit
That also comes with hype…really expensive or the only tire(s) you hear bout in EVERY OTHER SINGLE tire thread is better, not necessarily true but you might get a feeling for a trend of most peoples experience

Obviously take into consideration $, future plans, weight, style, etc. but that’s all strictly relative soooo…yeah, you can be strategic

Grab a pair, live with it or don’t, n keep driving

    side note:

My thoughts are do you plan to have an air compressor. If yes you can put LT rated tires in your list. Mostly people air them at 40 ish on road and 20 ish on dirt.
Other choices are SL and XL rated tires. Usually people air them at 32-36 ish on road and 25 ish on dirt.
You mentioned obsedian -its glass deposits can be razor sharp, in rocky form not so sharp.

SL and XL tires are popular for their ride quality.

All load range tires come in all tread and sidewall configurations. Your choices are many.
Are you planning to match the spare-then you need 5.
Be aware of date codes when tires are manufactured. It is recommended to retire them when 6 years or older. Some risk 8-10 years old tires.
    This chart is interesting:

Wildpeaks have never failed me this past winter. Next set will be either Wildpeaks again or Mickeys.

Another vote for the Baja Boss. Smooth, quiet, balanced perfectly using Roadforce machine. Have been great in the snow and rain. Got them for cheaper than the Wildpeaks, and they have deeper tread and are also a bit lighter.
