2022 4Runner ORP. Anyone have any success getting the front and passenger side windows tinted to match the factory tint on the backseat windows? I had mine done but the front is noticeably lighter than the backseat windows. The shop I brought it to said they can re-do it using ceramic but it might turn out even darker than the back seat. Thanks.

Since the rear glass is smoked, it will be difficult to get an exact match with a tint film. I would go ceramic simply for the heat blocking benefits but I didn't and regret it.

20% gets you pretty close and is a common grade.

This is a super old pic of mine but it shows the tint well I think. The tint is the only mod still on there!

They matched mine with ceramic as close as they could. I like it and will live with it. They say so much sun comes in windshield it distorts it. I will say ceramic does keep it cooler for sure; I think Meezfah has a closer match than myself

I struggled with making them match too....I went with a ceramic tint and tinted all of the rear at 35% in the back and 15% for the front two windows. The tint guy used a tint meter (forgot the actual name) and with that combo the front measure 15% dark and the back measured 11%. That was a close as I could get it to all of them matching....hope that helps.

Just told my tint shop to match the rear door tint, and do the front windshield to line up with the bottom of the camera black out area. They did do it in ceramic tint.

    5 or 15 %

I had 20 all round. The front wasn't dark enough.
So they applied another layer of 20% front.

Note using the passenger side mirror on a dark rainy night might be challenging.

Here's 20% in the sun. Hard angle because it was 830am. Windows on the opposite side are down in both pics so you can evaluate the similarities between the front and back without extra tint on the windows behind confounding the image. Not exact but good enough IMO.

Pass windows up driver's windows down. Sun is right on the windows, behind the camera, so it's very bright. Tint almost not visible.
    PXL_20221109_141920238.jpg

Driver's up passengers down. Sun on the far side of the truck, in front of the camera. Tint more accurately represented here.

I agree, and thanks for posting this thread. 3 years in, I am still dragging my feet on tinting my front windows, and this will be helpful information to give the tint shop.

I believe it's 20% on top of the factory tint and 15% in the front. I will have to check the paper work when I get back into town

I feel like the manufacturer of the tint and whether or not our pics are in various lighting conditions outside make a difference as well.

I tinted it myself and did 5% two fronts and 15% wrapped over the rest of the vehicle minus the rear door I left that factory to see out of at night even tho we have the backup cam still makes it easier to see out the window when reversing

I ran 5% in front and 20% over the already smoked rears. It was almost perfectly matched.

I tinted in all the around (less front wind screen) slightly lighter than yours and have minor regrets.

The heat shielding is great (we camp in CA deserts constantly).

The night time visibility out of the front row windows is problematic. Driving around campgrounds (established and dispersed) at night requires rolling the windows down. . . even when it's COLD outside.

Yep.... Wait for a cold dark rainstorm when all side windows are steamed up. Almost zero visibility then :)
    Kinda trade-off....

Without tints, the truck just too plain though

Would it be worth it for me to go with "ceramic" tint if I only want both rear seat windows (plus little tri-angle window on each side), rear hatch & 2 rear side windows (which can't be opened).

In other words, I do not want the front seat windows or the windshield tinted at all. But I want a really dark tint for the rear windows so people can't see in. So would ceramic be a waste of money if I'm not doing the fronts ?

Here’s Llumar CTX 30% on the front two windows with factory privacy dye in the rear.

This was my second attempt, first round of 20% 3M was mismatched and really amplified that greenish hue the 4R front windows have.

It depends on the lighting and if my sunroof cover is open or not. but I went with Llumar ceramic, 30% on the fronts, 95% on the rears (just for the heat reflection) so they match. I also threw on some 95% on my sunroof glass so my head doesn't burn. When it's dark out they match perfectly, and when it's light out the front windows are a bit lighter than the rears, but its not that far off and I don't have to worry about night time or rainy time visibility issues.

Same here. Be careful what you wish for with tinting. Almost zero visibility at night and with my smoked tail lights forget about backing up with the mirrors at night. LOL

    +1,

Love the tint in the summer sun, but makes turning out on unlit roads at night scary if I don’t roll my window down.

35% here. But everyone it getting it dark. Which I find a little scary I like to see the driver. But, I have a 20% waiver for photophobic eyes.
