Too bad the car industry was forced to implement all the " Safety Sense Electronic Gagets" in model year 2020. Since then vehicles are altered in a big way. The internet is full of disappointed new vehicle owners with these systems acting up.
Then we have the carbon issue-this translates to MPG resulting in small displacement engines.
Bottom line is keep your pre-2020 vehicles. If you wear out vehicles for your job - lease new vehicles then you are "off the hook" for repairs as it ages. A good lease for you is one where the manufactures warranty is in full force during your lease period, and provides equal free vehicle when yours is in the shop for repairs.
Let us all pray the Oil Industry survives as we are dependent upon gas.

I'm not aware of any specific safety equipment standard for the 2020MY. I know about the backup camera around 2018.

There's an Automated-Emergency-Braking requirement slated for 2029 but don't know if that'll truly go into effect.

Toyota added TSS-P to the 4Runner for 2020 voluntarily.

Oil industry is in no trouble. It gets billions of our dollars (if fellow American) already and if it somehow, magically folds we'll figure out a way.

Ram is supposed to be bringing the hemi 5.7 back next year. That would be my choice in a new full-size truck.

My 02 ram was the first year of the re emergence of the hemi and i loved it. Just had the cooling system break every summer was annoying. 1 year a radiator 1 year a water pump etc.

Yeah, the hemi is a great engine and sounds fantastic.

That said, I'm actually really intrigued by the "Hurricane" 3.0 twin turbo straight 6. All the reviews on it have been stellar, people really love it and a lot of reviewers say other than the sound they don't miss the Hemi at all. The Hurricane is more powerful on paper, and a lot quicker in the real world.

Reliability still remains to be seen, but occasionally I hear of issues with the hemi too, so nothing is bulletproof anymore.

I’d rather have a big NA V8 on a full size truck.

Drove both back to back 2 weeks ago. The Hemi sounded fantastic, for 26 they all have the "sport exhaust" standard. It had that classic muscle car sound, and felt strong. It made sure you knew it too, every little bit of throttle input was announced with a roar of exhaust.

The Hurricane on the other hand, felt just as strong, but was the strong silent type. Every bit of throttle input was met with no fanfare, just acceleration. While idling, you barely realize it's running, and that makes the start/stop mode almost invisible. I only noticed it when the engine started back up, not when it stopped.

I loved the smoothness of the 6, it was a really calm driving experience. My gf came with me on the drives, afterwards we both agreed the 6 felt better.

The Hemi sounded amazing, but I'm sure that roar would get old on a daily. Teenage me drove a loud-ass V8 truck, adult me wants a quiet experience so I can enjoy my podcasts, lol. My neighbors would probably thank me too, we're pretty close together and I leave at 6am.

For a weekend toy or project vehicle, I'd probably go V8, as a daily, the Hurricane rocks.

Anyway, I drove this home Saturday and am loving it so far:

Looking good! And you were right in getting the V6. More power yet quite, subtle and calm. Loud exhausts on anything other than sports cars and especially pickup trucks is preposterous.
Could you upload some interior pics also and how much did they give you for the 4runner of you don't mind sharing.

When Toyota offering turbo-4 or randomly grenading engines, you shouldn't be surprised people look elsewhere.

Nice looking truck! I to have been looking to trade in my trusted 4runner.

I like the new tacoma, but i also like the bronco, and the aftermarket support with the bronco really impresses me.

Ive never owned a Chrysler (stellantis) product, but If i was going with a brand new 1/2 ton, I think its the best choice at the moment. They have the nicest interiors and the quietest. GM and Ford are both having issues with their 10 speed autos, and the RAM USES THE AWESOME ZF 8 speed. Inline 6's have advantages, naturally balanced engine. Ford is eliminated because of the wet belts, GM because of variable cylinder displacement among the fact they just make cheap garbage overall. The tundra is out for several reasons, one of which you mentioned. I have both my 2023 4Runner and an old nissan titan full size truck, and yes i throw my bike in the back all the time. you might not be able to with the full size quad cab and the short bed that comes with it.

Someone aSKED about used Titans earlier in this thread. Great drivetrains (avoid the short lived diesel model) but plauged with some of that general Nissan Cheapness interior feeling, especially the older ones, like my 2006

Ya, me too, but you can only get a V-6 or a inline 6 now.

The Hemi is back for 2026. I was actually surprised my dealer had one, I think they're just rolling out.

The Hemi also comes with the E-Torque mild hybrid setup, as does the 3.6 V6.

Even a few months back I thought I'd have wanted the Hemi, but I really liked driving the l6.

Thanks! I REALLY like the Bronco, if I had wanted another SUV that would have been top of the list. IMO, with the Sasquatch package they're head and shoulders over anything Toyota has in regards to capability, and they look so damn cool, especially in green. And you're right, the aftermarket is booming for them.

Well I didn't specify that it was brand new.

They DID discontinue the V8 for the 2025 refresh, but then FCA US got a new boss who thought having no V8 was woke, so they brought it back for 26. It wasn't a simple thing, it involved a lot of reengineering the electrical system since the 2025 had no provision for it.

A lot of guys who've owned the V8 are saying they prefer the 6. A guy in one of the groups I joined just posted a zero-60 time of 4.9 seconds for the standard output with stock 3.55 gears, 35" tires, and a tune.

Straight 6 actually. My second Chrysler vehicle, and my 2nd straight 6. It's so smooth and quiet, I love it. First brand new vehicle too.

They gave me 12k for the 4Runner (203K miles) and 2k for my old 07 Volvo lawn ornament that I hadn't gotten around to donating or scrapping. Plus nearly 7k off sticker.

I'm sure some of that high trade in came out of some other, non advertised incentives, but whatever, I'm happy with the deal.

I'll post some pics for you this weekend. I'll post one that shows the color too, it's called Forge Blue, but appears dark grey or even black depending on the light. It's cloudy right now, and it looks black. I've gotten so many compliments on it already.

the hemi is junk. They have low oil pressure issues that contribute to early valvetrain wear. Google "the hemi tick". read all about it. They never addressed the issue as far as i know. Lots of camshaft and rocker failures due to poor design, not enough oil pressure at low rpm.

There are no good V8s now. GM are all garbage, Ford is using a wet belt, the hemi tick, and toyota discontinued theirs, and Nissan quit making the Titan all together and went to a turbo 6 in the Armada.

The Hurricane might be junk too, to early to tell, but i have a good feeling about it. And chrysler switching to the ZF transmission because they couldnt make a decent one themselves was probably what saved dodge trucks. Going to coil springs was a nice touch too, gives them a better ride and apparently hasnt hurt towing capability.

Yeah, I've heard enough about the Hemi tick over the years to not want one. Plus with MDS and E-Torque, it seems more complicated than the Hurricane.

I'm loving the ZF so far, shifts like buttah. It was a reason I went Ram. And with the rear coils it rides smooth even empty. I've ridden in Silverados, they don't ride nearly as nice.

I'm with you on MDS. They had it right with the original Gen III Hemi w/o MDS. Maybe give me a cam phaser and stop with the "improvements".

GM's DOD system and Chryslers MDS system has ruined these once damn near bullet proof engines. Locking pins in the lifters to deactivate them? Give me a break.

I'm glad you like the truck bro but you're gonna need to get a SAS'd 1st Gen 4R now obviously.

Did your truck come with the 10 year 100K warranty? That’s a big deal for full-size trucks with how many issues they all seem to have lately.

With how expensive most vehicles now. Every single one should come with atleast a 6yr 80k mile warranty. Props to ram for offering that.

I think the 100K warranty is what attracts so many people to Hyundais and Kia’s. Along with being reasonably priced.

Yes, 10yr/100k powertrain warranty. It was a factor, nobody else offers that on a truck. I do about 20k a year, so having a warranty for 5 years is nice. I may also pick up an extended bumper to bumper

. I'm planning on paying it off within the next 3 years or so, then maybe trading for a new one. I don't think holding onto these new vehicles forever makes sense anymore, I don't know that any of them (Toyota included) are going to easily get beyond 10 years, 200k miles. I guess time will tell.

My gf has a 21 Elantra, it's a very nice little car for 21k. It's got features I wish my 57k Ram had. She's at 71k miles with it, no issues beyond routine maintenance. I drove it to work yesterday since she was off, I averaged 41.8 mpg, and it's not even the hybrid one.

.A Toyota buddy of mine told me the same thing, haha. I'd love one, but I think an XJ will be more on budget.

Plus side, the Ram will easily tow either of them.
