Woke up to side door in my house open. Burglars came in the middle of the night while we were upstairs asleep and took my wallet, my Rolex and my car keys that were on the kitchen counter. Took me an hour to realize they stole the 4runner as well. So bummed.

Had just spent the weekend in the desert camping and 4 wheeling. Still had some of my camping gear in the back of the truck. Last photo of the 4runner from Sunday's excursion. I live in San Diego... it's probably already across the border into Baja. Never to be seen again. So bummed.

I will pray that you find it again. Also please share pics that separates from others 4Runners on your local FB groups as well. So if anyone see it, can call the cops. I've even see teens stealing cars, not just professional thieves sometimes. So pls don't loose hope, try your best.

    Edit -

Sorry I didn't realize you knew the burgers were their. I thought they came without your knowledge. Sorry you had to face that. :(

Damn that sucks, they're ballsy as fuck to actually break in while you're there. Do you have any cameras in your house?

No cameras. We have a dog that slept through the entire event. He’s currently in detention!

Speaking of security, before we got our dog I used to have 2 security systems. 1st security system connected to monitoring center and only running door and window sensors and no in door motion sensors in "Night mode" and the 2nd security system not connected to monitoring center that includes in door motion sensors (in addition to water sensors, light switches and some stuff). After we got our dog we do not arm the 2nd security system with in door motion sensors as it may trigger if dog go down to drink water. I guess I have to re-think this.

My dog is a play kid and not trained as a guard dog and has no intention to either. I too don't want my dog to get involved. I want my dog to be safe like my kid while I take care of any risk to the family while authorities come.

Damn that sucks, man... Thankfully it was just the burglary though! Those items can be replaced, but your lives can't. Hopefully they catch the thieves. if not, karma will handle them.

I live in North County SD. I'll keep an eye out for you!

P.S. I love Valley of the moons trail!

If you haven't already, rekey the house and if there were other car keys on the ring they stole then get those cars secured and rekeyed ASAP

I've had more than one call where the shit bags did a follow up burglary using the keys and / or stole multiple cars using the one set of stolen keys; and sometimes a few weeks later even.

I’m not familiar with all the new tech the new 4Runners have, but if they have anything remotely close to Onstar they could locate your vehicle via GPS. Go through the rest of your house where they could’ve accessed and go inventory any valuables you store. Sorry to hear that OP, thieves suck.

How is that possible for the dog to sleep through. Something doesn't fit in.
Rolex, Wallet and car keys. Same Spot.

Rolex, Wallet and car keys. Same Spot. -> Same as me, since I have the newer key fobs I keep them in RF blocking box and keep everything in the same box.

dog sleep through -> Indeed very strange. Mine wake up the minute I get off the bed.

A lot of people put there wallet and key by their door on a table or something when they come home so they don't forget it when they leave. The dog probably wasn't sleeping unless it's deaf but probably just docile and friendly. I personally wouldn't leave my Rolex by the door but we don't know the entire story. I would bet the burglars knew the op somehow and they knew he didn't have a camera

I don't think the 4runner is in Mexico, no one drives those down there or in South America. If it was a tacoma or older toyota pick up then yes for sure. If they didn't joy ride and dump it, the parts are probably going to end up in an auto dismantler by the border on the US side near San Ysidro

Sorry to see this man but glad you're ok. Sadly theft all of sorts in my area is rising also from cat thefts, to actual vehicle thefts. I posted on another thread about my buddies truck being stolen at a Ford plant (he is an electrician and they took a bunch of trucks). He is stuck having to work there and after buying a replacement truck he starting setting a bear trap on the seat each night as he went to work. By golly he got something with it too. He is no bs sort of guy (a bit crazy) but he got creative back.

Found the 4Runner already. It was ditched by the local high school and left in a red zone. Was towed by police this am before I had called it in. Thief took the keys with him and I have no spare (lost it last year). Being towed to Toyota to get re keyed and I’ll have it back this evening. No damage other than being rained on all day as the windows were left down by the thief.

Yes the Rolex, wallet and keys were all together right where I put them every day. That’s the only thing missing from the home. I don’t think they were in the house very long. Muddy footprints on tile in laundry room where they came in. Door was locked but they must have reached through the dog door and unlocked.

He's in socal. There's a shit ton of homeless and druggies even in San Diego. No such thing as a good neighborhood in commiefornia, criminals know they don't prosecute here. On my neighborhood ring camera you see people literally every night walking past cars trying to see if they can open them

Pavo is right. I live in La Jolla which is a pretty affluent area of SD but the crime here is crazy. People walking the streets every night checking car doors and gates to peoples homes. Neighbor who lives a block away posted a video on nextdoor of someone trying to get into his garage via the alley last night. Probably the same dude that got into my house. Oh well. The weather is great and the surf is good so I'm not leaving anytime soon.

Good eye! That place is rad. Fun 4 wheeling and great quick getaway from SD for a weekend adventure. Was a bit windy Saturday night but still epic. camp1.jpg camp2.jpg

If you're planning on keeping your rig long term, I would fluid film/woolwax your frame. I've seen a ton of coastal toyotas that live in sd with heavy flaking rust (all original owner cars that just live by the beach). I surf pb a bit, not the best sd break but you can always catch something there
