The dealership added oil conditioner and fuel cleaner with the oil change.

I recently had my 2024 4Runner TRDpro serviced at the dealership. They performed a full synthetic oil change and added C500 oil conditioner and F610 fuel cleaner saying that’s factory recommended maintenance. Since I only have 10,000 miles on my vehicle, I’m concerned about whether these additional products will negatively impact my engine.

    It is not factory recommended.
I suggest you find a different dealership going forward. And if it's eating you from inside, do another oil change on your own dime but it won't harm anything.

It’s not factory recommended. Your engine will be fine but the manual says no additives needed.

I visited this dealership for the first time, as it’s conveniently located near my home. I usually prefer to go to another dealership. When they informed me that it’s factory-recommended maintenance at 10,000 miles, I found it nonsensical. Despite this, I ended up paying a total of $140 for all the services. I will never return to this dealership again.

Its pretty frustrating, dealerships have all kinds of ads with their "recommended maintenance".

My dealership recommends replacing the contacts for the hybrid batteries on their list. Ridiculous.

Definitely check Toyota corporate's maintenance schedule and have that ready when going to your local stealership.

If all you requested was an oil change and they added the other "services" without your knowledge (I personally wouldn't have paid them) and you already paid, I'd be contacting the dealership manager for a refund. That's just me.

I only requested an oil change and tire rotation, but I was surprised by the final bill.

It appears that they performed the service using a dealer-recommended package and those were add-ons. I discovered this information on their website. This is incredibly surprising. This place is a perfect example of stealership.

They might not even have added any additives.
But charged you all the same. To recover cost of the Toyota 'Factory free oil change and tire rotation'
Since there is no way of verifying.

Yeah, I also doubt that. However, they made me pay for everything, claiming that Toyota’s free oil change and tire rotation services don’t apply to leased vehicles. I initially leased my car and later bought it.

That's BS. Every Toyota I owned before 4runner was leased and they had Toyota free maintenance. Report the dealership via Toyota owners portal. They might even reimburse your money paid for the services that should be free.

I’m planning to do that soon. All these things don’t make sense. When I spoke with the advisor from the service department about it, they promised to give me a free oil change next time. However, they didn’t mention it in any of the paperwork they provided me, and I’m not interested in returning to that dealership.

I bought it already had leather. Some audio
In only 10K miles (when your very 1st Toyota oil change would be due!) what the F in the fuel system needs cleaning? Incredible. And to add an oil booster? They must be in deep with the ZAK products. I'm sure no Toyota technical personal FTS,FPE, (Field Technical Specialist, Field Product Engineer)
would be thinking this is a good thing. It has to just be the dealer pushing this. At 10K!!!! There is nothing in the Toyota Warranty and Maintenance Guide for replacing at 10K other than oil and filter. Along with their normal check this, check that. I'd call Toyota Brand Engagement Center and tell them you're concerned the dealer added Toyota unapproved additives. Tell them, with the problem the Tundra's are having with their engines your super concerned doing anything to the oil. (Different model. Different engine, I know) Even though it won't cause a like failure it might get you an extra oil change to "get it out" at another dealer or at least a refund. There is this little out for the dealer on page 34 of the TWMG " Dealer-Recommended Maintenance Your dealer may recommend more frequent maintenance intervals or more maintenance services than those listed in the scheduled maintenance log. These additional services are not required to maintain your warranty coverage. Ask your dealer to explain any recommended maintenance not included in the scheduled maintenance log." And without your approval. SMH

Speaking of oil additives, one of my neighbors has a 2022 Toyota Tundra 4WD with that 3.5L V-6 Twin Turbo. It’s a non-hybrid.

He bought it brand new locally. He’s performing his own oil and filter changes on it and keeping strict records on that.

I hung out with him once while he was doing an oil change on it. He’s using 0W-20 Mobil 1 Synthetic oil, plus he’s adding in some sort of graphite oil additive as well.

He’s on a self-imposed oil change schedule of every 4,000 miles. He’s already north of 40,000 miles on his odometer.

He hasn’t had a moment’s trouble out of his Tundra’s TT V-6 like many other’s have had with that problematic engine. He credits that graphite oil additive that he uses.

Beats me. Is he just lucky with his particular Tundra TT V-6, or is he on to something with that graphite additive and his 4,000 mile change interval? He buys his Tundra oil filters from our local Toyota dealer.

He’s been trying to get me to use that graphite oil additive in my T4R, but I’m gun-shy over it and have been politely declining. I forget the name of the stuff. I’ll have to ask him what it’s called. He calls it graphite, but it must have some sort of brand name. I should have paid more attention that time I was there while he was doing it.

I don’t know. Time will tell for him I guess, as to whether or not his Tundra V-6 craps the bed.

When I go in for maintenance, be it dealer or independent, I hand them a copy of the maintenance manual page for the particular service interval with the items circled I want done. I then check the order carefully before signing to make sure nothing has been added. If they come to me with something they have found that needs done, I say show me.

    Guys, Guys, Guys....

Lets focus on the really appauling thing that occurred here: The OP waited until 10k miles to change his oil. We allllllllllllllllll know it's done at the 5k interval!

Just lucky! When that Twin Turbo V6 decides to go, no graphite is going to save it.

If the graphite additive and a shorter interval was all you needed to fix an engine, I would expect Toyota to be handing it out like candy.

Can't oil change your way out of an upstream issue but I have seen people convinced the HyunKia Theta II was just lack-of-maintenance by everyone (except them, naturally) when it was largely luck of the draw.

Had a dealer add an oil additive I didn’t ask for once during one of the free oil changes, I had them take the charge off and dump the oil.

They are not short of thieves but I did realize that they do have a different tone if you know what exactly needs to be done and what you expecting from the service. Being clear and straight helps.
They are looking for gullible, ignorant owners.
I was at the dealership few days ago to pickup ATFWS and overheard the service adviser sell the injector cleaning service, ac recharge service, new battery for remote, new floor mats for added foot stability, an inspection charge to identify noise from below the dash, headlight adjustment service and some more stuff. I think he got billed for around $1400 and some change. And this was a new vehicle still under factory warranty.

I wouldn’t worry about it being detrimental to the vehicle. $140 isn’t cheap, but it’s not crazy either. It seems the tire rotation was included. Tire rotation is harder than an oil change. Those wheels and tires are crazy heavy. I just read a post where someone said that they “just” paid $96 for an oil change only and wondered why others didn’t pay for the service. I get a Toyota filter and Toyota oil on sale. Filter is about $4 and each quart of oil is about $5 each.
