Yeah we know about the cult.

Also, cue the selfie that pops up every time TCCN is mentioned.

I just want to know what and how to fix or avoid the problem. Everything else is data. Not many 4runner problems. He sees the high mileage over time.

He was a struggling mechanic at a Toyota dealer who struck it rich on YouTube.

I don't understand dishonesty involved in making such post. It is one thing to disagree with someone, it is entirely different thing to make up stuff to try to do reputation damage. Making stuff up because you disagree with his 5K OCI recommendation? Shameful.

The Car Care Nut is an experienced Toyota tech that started at a dealership but now has his own shop and does YT as a side business. He is successful in both, has a lot of good information about Toyota and Lexus, etc., etc. He struck rich because he works hard, essentially doing two jobs - running his shop during the day and doing YT content after hours. He is also an immigrant that started with nothing, worked super hard to make it all happen. TCCN is an example to admire and you trying to tear it down over a disagreement? For shame.

He is shifting from a mechanic to a content creator . Never a good sign.
Also, doing two jobs is his own free will. Nobody is compelling him to make Youtube videos.
My local Toyota Dealership has a 60 year old Japanese Master Tech working on Toyotas for over 35 years and loves working on high mileage vehicles whenever he has an opportunity. I, like many others specially ask for him when there is something that needs to be done on our high mileage Toyotas. He knows more than the Nut and in fewer words. In fact, I am sure if he was a talker, he would be much more popular than the Nut.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 36 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 36yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
Liked to watch him a couple years ago, now I’m a little skeptical of some of his content.

I am in this camp with you. His very early videos were very good and INTENTIONAL. His advice was very helpful at the beginning and not critical or dramatic. As content becomes scarce, he became critical of the off-road guys, the pavement princess type mods, and then even went after the Toyota engineers criticizing this and that...and the other. So.....not sure. Anyway, he is a content creator and a very good mechanic, give him all that.

Did Derek posted the picture kissing him already?

He is the most critical salesman the Nut has these days. He has a PCV job on sale every holiday.

Like everything, take what you fits your needs and disregard the rest. Its rare to have such long term experience with a single brand and the amount of hands on experience. Its really invaluable if you discern the information, doesn't matter your opinion of the person or way which they get it to you.

He's far better than Scotty the spaz. and better than 60 year old Japanese Master Tech that does not share anything outside his small circle.

I saw it on the internet so it has to be true. And it was a REAL content creator who said it too.

They couldn't put it out there if it wasn't true...

I may or may not like his opinions, but sure do appreciate him showing the procedure to R/R a part I would have no idea how to if not for his videos. That's what I look for.

There is also someone on this site that claims he was never a Toyota tech or even a tech and tried to make it sound like he is nothing but actor. There is also someone on here that thinks having your own shop is less then working for a dealers. For me I think they are just upset because he has different opinions then they have and they can’t believe anyone would think different then them.

    This is an accurate summary.

The vast majority of my adult influences growing up were auto mechanics, the rest were other tradesmen. AMD is a good mechanic from what I have seen. I generally enjoyed his older videos more than his newer content, but can’t fault the guy for wanting to earn money from his content. Wrenching ain’t easy.

as i said above, i judge a man on character and how they present themselves. He was very nice to me and was actually with a customer looking at their car.

lmao. I wish. ACTUALLY, there is a shop/mechanic 5 doors down from him called Annico Automotive. The owner - Randy is really good and hires great mechanics. He also has a lot of integrity. I took my Honda Pilot to him and wasnt disappointed. i called TCCN to do my OEM LCAs but it took them like a week to get back to me. I took it to Randy and he did them. The only downside to Annico is Randy is really old school and uses a lot of post-it notes for appointments. So if he says yeah, drop it off Tuesday, that doesnt mean he will look at tuesday - could be Friday or Monday but the work is quality

Some of his titles have gotten click-baity, but he usually delivers lol. If not with a good physical look at the mechanics of interesting cars, then it’s with videos of actual procedures. For example, even videos of him going through “easy stuff” is helpful, like 4runner spark plug changes, or transfer case change on his GX/4runner.

Then there’s the really neat stuff, like showing him doing some work on v12 Crown limousine. Where else does a nerd get to see the exposed top end workings of a toyota v12? I actually bonded with my brother in law over christmas watching this video on the TV… entire video (close to an hour long). There was much pausing and standing up to get a closer look at cams, rockers, manifolds…mmmmm. Good stuff.

What I find kind of amusing is watching him age and slowly becoming the graybeard. He’s got some good rants on his channel some of Toyota’s design decisions of some Toyotas , delivered in the most calm, yet “disappointed in you”, yet “i believe you can do better” tones. Lol.

Also enjoy some of his reminiscing videos on the toyotas his family drove in the days of his youth. They were the same toyotas of my youth, so I get the vibes hearing him talk.

In the end, he’s done some very well-made “reference level” videos in the past, and they still remain for me and others to reference in the future. There’s nothing like seeing and hearing someone walk you through a long procedure or one that you’re unfamiliar with. You can avoid a lot of pit falls by watching them.

And seriously, who cares about his opinion regarding oil change intervals? He’s gearing the videos for people that are going to have the vehicles long-term. Of course he’s going to recommend maintainance intervals geared for long-term ownership.
